Position Information:

Singleton High School is a large, comprehensive rural high school catering for year 7-12. The school is located in the rural and mining sector of the Hunter Valley.

The school has a cap of 1100 with a current student population of 985, including 3.05% EALD and 25% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, with a FOEI of 134.

The Singleton High School expectations are Pride, Respect, Responsibility and Excellence in Learning.

Emphasis is on quality teaching and learning, enhancing student achievement and learning outcomes, with a strong commitment to student engagement and attendance.

The school promotes a caring and supportive environment, providing programs that cater for students of all abilities and backgrounds.

Singleton High School is situated on the lands of the Wonnarua people. The KaWul Aboriginal Cultural Resource Centre established Aboriginal boys (Clontarf) and girls (Kayu Kumpa) programs.

Local Elders, an active AECG and strong executive leadership are integral to supporting high quality Aboriginal programs at Singleton High School.


The school has a high level of support from parents and carers and prides itself on its strong community partnerships.


The school is a proud member of the Upper Hunter and Singleton Learning Community (SLC) educational networks which foster educational collaboration through learning communities.

  • Demonstrated visible and collaborative leadership to build high expectations, a positive school culture and to inspire and empower staff.
  • Demonstrated capacity to prioritise and lead teaching and learning as the focal point to improve student engagement, attendance and academic achievement.
  • A resilient and an approachable leader who promotes and nurtures harmonious and productive relationships with stakeholders to support students and raise the profile of Singleton High School.

General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

For appointment as principal of a high school or principal of a central school, the possession of a degree from a recognised university or qualifications considered to be equivalent is regarded as essential.
