We Aim to Entertain

"Go the Wallabies!"

Watching the national rugby team win on home turf at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, is absorbing, captivation, engaging, but, most of all, purely and simply entertaining. Currently, however, our daily dose of entertainment has evaporated, albeit temporarily, and there is a void previously only filled by social gathering, cuddle-close comradery and escapism. As we isolate ourselves, practice social distancing, and sit out whatever restrictions this play-stopping pandemic propagates our politicians and law enforcers to essentially push upon us, we are faced with the choice of either grimly swallowing our societal medicine, as a cheerless and stoic prophylactic, or else make the most of our new found 'free' time and re-invent the stimuli for our amusement, relaxation and enjoyment.

It never ceases to amaze me that, in times of hardship, so many of us post and blogg as if to reinforce how our lives are indeed grim, how the problem (in this case pandemic) continues to expand and permeate around the world, following often questionable statistics, echoing reports and often 'false news' into a torrent of dismay, combining our collective mindsets to form a downward spiral of negativity, down and down into an abyss of mind-blowing madness.

Yet we have the intuitive means, driven by the mother of invention, to necessarily re-hash our entertainment, and certainly most of us have the newfound time to explore and expand our sources.

So, for starters, why don't we dust off the cobwebs and look back upon some entertaining beBee posts from the last year or four? And, equally important, as we open each link, let's dwell on some of the perhaps more entertaining comments strings, remembering with some regrets, perhaps, the days (well gone now) when beBee.com was young and fresh and everyone was chumping at the bit to climb aboard and interact with gusto.

Personally, as many of you may know, I love to alliterate, not only in my blogs, but also in my comments, by way of congratulations to the author of a well constructed and entertaining post. Add to that my propensity for puns and itty-bitty-ditty poems, and the result is either palliative or pun-itive, the choice is yours. But the bottom line is ...

We Aim to Entertain.
Ken's main beBee objective

I hope you'll join me in reading through my preamble of a few posts from the more recent past (oldest at the front and newest at the back) followed by an example, in each case, of my own congratulatory comments.

My two were also born in Kiwiland, Paul Walters, and retained their nationality (well at least Kiwi passports) until it was time to claim HECS for going to uni. In both cases their Aussie passports were acquired quicker than a rat up a drain pipe. 🤣

Ken Boddie Firstly thank you for including me in your rogue's gallery...I'm honoured! Love the Wallaby attire, a sign of a true fan. I have used this "quiet" time to tragically return to watching the golden age of Wallaby rugby with Mr Eales, Gregan, Horan, Little, Larkham, and Latham to name a few. How did we lose the plot so quickly? I have two daughters one of them born in NZ and although we left that land of the All Black cloud she is, thirty years later a die-hard AB fan ( she is naturally out of the will) The second is an equally die-hard Wallaby supporter since birth as I recall. Sadly, at 25 she last witnessed us lifting the Bledisloe Cup when she was 8 !!! Oh well, her name is Hope and she lives by that name. Thanks again and keep the posts coming !!

Ken Boddie Thanks for the comeback Ken ... I did not ask that question very well I see the vast majority of comments have that + - beneath the comment ... but at times it is not there ... so a bee can't like or dislike a comment ... This bee has way too much curiosity ;~) I'll take all the peppers that Peter Piper picks ;~) ... prepare them to place on pasta & pizza perfectly prepared ;~) May it be ... that your cup runneth over in every good way ;~)

I think you’re reading too much into the ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ + or - , Fay. Many bees don’t use these at all and, what’s more, if you miss the original notification that tells you “Peter Piper likes your comment ...” the platform doesn’t allow you to find out who liked your Remark retrospectively. 🙁

Ken Boddie This curious bee is wondering if on a comment there is no + or - I see this at times ... on my comments /no response ... or reply (example my comment between #22 & #14) #14 is my comment & it was responded to

Ken Boddie Thanks Ken ... I somehow happened upon that post ... commented several times ... really enjoyed your way of seeing ;~) sharing ;~) Notice that I did not click "relevant" ... so glad I went back and corrected my oversight It is my practice to hit "relevant" if only out of respect for the effort applied ;~) I shared it today ... hope the spirit & wisdom of "give & take" ... flows over ... I loved the poem in this post https://www.bebee.com/producer/@ken-boddie/is-commending-the-commenter-a-matter-of-a-pinion What's this beBee all about, should I stay and work it out? Why do strangers follow me, should I follow them and see? Share a photo, post a link, tell them what I really think? A full-cup cannot receive ;~)

Fay Vietmeier Indeed, new flavors fill the river, but the old essence is missed. By the way I mentioned you in my post of yesterday (not of today's) A Wrong Question to Ask- Which is greater fear or love? https://www.bebee.com/producer/@ali-anani/a-wrong-question-to-ask-which-is-greater-fear-or-love Have a day of of flavor of joy and success

Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee Good day my dearest Professor ... the thought that came as I read your comment is that beBee is also like a river: when a bee leaves ... another flies in to fill the gap in their own unique way ... but the sweet essence of the bee who leaves is missed You will always be a special bee to me For you were and are welcoming ... always gracious and your ambassador qualities SHINE ;~) I happen upon some of these "bees of old" Phil Friedman ... I'm sure there are MANY ... these are writers who I happened upon & enjoyed their unique perspective & wisdom I think this quote I was by way of Joel Anderson: "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." ~ Heraclitus

There have been a number of changes on this platform, Fay, some with the bees who contribute and some with management. Despite this I remain relatively optimistic, although things are very different from when I started blogging here four years ago. The only constant we have in life is change, and so I bite my tongue and follow my own road. I have developed my own fool’s guide to beBee blogging which I’m sure you read when you first appeared on this platform. Here is the link again. Pity most newBees (and some older ones) appear to ignore the ‘give and take’ philosophy I postulate therein. https://www.bebee.com/producer/@ken-boddie/is-commending-the-commenter-a-matter-of-a-pinion

I thank you for the mention dear Fay Vietmeier and for the mention of me in your comment my friend. Yes, surely engagement constructively to explore new thoughts and paradigms is a prime reason for me to be here on beBee. It is unfortunate that lately I noticed many good brains are no more engaged. They aren't any more present and they left to somewhere else. I don't want to assume the causes of their departure, but this is an issue that I leave to the beBee Team. This post is a sign of genuine engagement for it highlights some great post which may have all or few passed my attention.

Ken Boddie I appreciate your reflections on beBee ... especially about comments I am fairly new to beBee ... started posting June 2019 ... so less than 1 year Shout out to my dear Professor Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee ... for it was because of him that I began with beBee Because I thoughtfully read and endeavor to thoughtfully comment ... the lack of engagement/thoughtful responses is at times discouraging Or if you're not singing the right song with the right choir ... shunning from bees ... has happened to me ;~) this should not be ;~) .. I have often wondered why it is always the same bees who are engaged in the conversations ... which is fine for they are wonderful bees ... many are "ambassadors" ... I'm just surprised that new-bees don't buzz in more often. ... notice that many of the past-popular bees I happen upon ... while exploring are no longer contributing ... and rarely comment It may just be the pace of life but I read comments about these "bees of old" that have flown the hives or are otherwise engaged ... Each leaving ... lessons the sweet possibilities

Ken Boddie I'm so glad to have caught your entertaining post ;~) and honored to have been included ... truly ;~) I have only read a couple included here ... shall make my way through the "preamble of posts" I love your poetic responses ... especially enjoyed your comment to Renée 🐝 Cormier Bees are communal ... please don't close us in Our words will flow out in tales of chagrin Some poems might end with a sweet sip of gin But we're in it together ... thru thick & through thin

Ken, you read my mind. I'm finishing a new post after a long time. It's the result not so much of willingness to create, but of expressing certain views. Due to my busy schedule (construction projects continue despite the coronavirus situation, daily care of my mother who lives in her apartment) it'll take me a while to finish.

Less fish certainly, Lada 🏡 Prkic, but the rewards, albeit no longer ‘pots of gold’ at the end of the rainbow, are still there for the effort. We each must decide if that reward still satisfies the will to create. No other platform appears to have regular interactive players who come and go with such appeal. It’s up to each of us who remain to avoid being that “poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more.” I look forward to reading your next post, Lada.

I remember seeing those ducks in that river, John Rylance. They were all so busy happily working away. I figured they had to be plumbers I could tell by their bum-quacks. But they’re not there any more. The police came and took them all away for selling quack. 🤣😂🤣

My appetite for commenting has also reduced recently, Lada. I’ve always In the past seen commenting on beBee as a sound investment and worthy of deliberation and preparation. I’ve habitually commented to encourage and reward the author, to hopefully illicit some engagement, and to broaden contacts to maintain and expand readership of my own posts, probably in that order of importance. Due, however, to the attrition rate of our previously active and interesting bees and the predominance of many newBees who blog only occasionally, rarely respond to comments on their own posts, and don’t comment on the posts of others, the previously sound investment of preparing meaningful, congratulatory and even entertaining comments has become much less fruitful. It seems to me like the beBee mainstream has become almost sterile, except for a few select quieter backwaters, so that when we cast our metaphorical comments fishing rod, we rarely find fish.

Ken, you successfully meet your main beBee objective-to entertain. Thanks as always for mentioning my posts. It's been almost a year I wrote Many Layers of the Commenting Onion. The situation has changed since then. For me, commenting on beBee has never been more demanding than lately. It never applies to your posts. I commented lately on some topics that I usually don't comment and reminded myself why I have given up commenting on politics, faith and religion. :( I've started reading some of the posts you mentioned and comment sections as well, looking for my congratulatory comments. :)

Ah O’Ken, thanks for that guided tour down memory lane. The beBee experience was pretty unique - but alas there has been a formidable attrition rate. Haven’t seen much from Jim Murray : Did you put on your Bok outfit when we played England in the final ( nudge, nudge, wink, wink!)?

What hat, Joyce 🐝 Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee, I wasn’t up for a fat cat tat on my twat, so I figured a full frontal rampant roo tatoo would do. As for your post, it certainly was mamorable. 😂
Heheh. Damn you are an ugly face to wake up to--and that hat... Maybe there's a chance I can chuckle myself back to sleep. You always know how to rhetorically shine without showing your teeth and you certainly have done that here. It's a pretty great lineup of folks and it pleases me that I'm nestled in the list. Thanks for the mamtion.
