Goodbye, Uncle Eddie. Sorry we never met.

Goodbye, Uncle Eddie. Sorry we never met.

95628fa1.jpg
Age shall not weary [him], nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
[I] will remember [him]

Goodbye, Uncle Eddie. Sorry we never met.

................................................................................

I was moved to write this on the eve of ANZAC Day, remembered here in Australia on 25 April every year.

I later updated this on Remembrance Day  (11th hour, 11th day, 11th month) after having found my original slide of the grave.

................................................................................

When not analysing consulting issues, I chase my creative side, the results of which can be seen as selected photographs of my travels on my website at:

http://ken-boddie.squarespace.com

The author of the above, Ken Boddie, besides being a consulting engineer, is an enthusiastic photographer, rarely leisure-travelling without his Canon, and loves to interact with other like-minded photographers and people with an artistic background.

Ken's three day work week (part time commitment) as a consulting engineer allows him to follow his photography interests, and to plan trips to an ever increasing list of countries and places of scenic beauty and cultural diversity.

Although I never knew my uncle, Dean-san, I suspect that those who fell foul of the hun's guns weren't just the good, but also the bad, the ugly and also those who Lady Fate favoured for a pre-emptive recce of the Pearly Gates.

Not in this case, Lisa. Around this time of year we are bombarded here in Oz by war tales (no pun intended). I now naturally think of my uncle (and all the other fallen heroes who have crossed my path) on Remembrance Day and on our ANZAC Day.

Do you think it was intuition that made you think of him again Ken Boddie?

I thought about him again this morning, at a small gathering in Brisbane, when we took a minute's silence for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. LEST WE FORGET!

Not many things are clear at my age, Dean, but this memory has remained clear as a bell. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Pretty incredible story. I am thinking The Water Diviner. It's like some mystical power shows you the path. And thanks for the reminder on ANZAC Day. Nice one Ken Boddie. Thanks for sharing.
