    Default job background
    Description

    Government Services Department (GSD)

The Government Services Department (GSD) was established in January 2023 to improve the experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government.

We bring essential day-to-day services together in one department, making things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government, as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

    About the Role

The Compliance Officer will conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act, and other legislation administered by Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV).

This role requires a degree of judgement, discretion and experience. The Compliance Officer will undertake more complex inspections of traders as they arise, including where there is a history of previous compliance breaches or following a complaint of specific breaches.

The Compliance Officer will also carry out residential tenancy investigations, including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as delegated under the Residential Tenancies Act.

Furthermore, the Compliance Officer will perform front-line dispute resolution, provide business and community education, and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives.

The Compliance Officer role is based in the Northwest Melbourne Metropolitan Region and may require outreach to other locations within the region, including Werribee, Melton and inner Melbourne.

    • Manage aspects of compliance and education programs under limited direction, identifying opportunities to improve service delivery.
    • Conduct a range of more complex and routine compliance activities, including investigations, inspections, and the preparation of reports and briefs of evidence.
    • This may involve obtaining comprehensive written statements and affidavits for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices.

    About You

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate:

    • Experience in compliance/investigations operations, including the planning, development, and delivery of outreach activities based on business plans and policies.
    • Demonstrated experience in preparing reports and drafting correspondence that provides clear and purposeful communication.
    • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of, and/or relevant experience in legislative compliance and enforcement activities and CAV relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures, or capacity to learn and apply the knowledge as required.

A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent qualification is desirable, or be prepared to attain the qualification soon after job commencement.

    Mandatory requirements include:

    • Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, law, or other related fields are desirable.
    • A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required.
