    Work Location: Perth. Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

    Fortescue is focussed on becoming the number one integrated green technology, energy and metals company. We are successfully developing a global portfolio of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects. This requires prudent project development efforts that accord the highest environmental standards. Fortescue projects will be required to meet all relevant external governance obligations and achieve internal environmental standards.

    To support this, we are seeking a Principal Environmental Advisor, specialising in terrestrial environments, reporting to the Global Environment Manager – Nature & Projects. This role will work closely with relevant functions (approvals, communities and project teams) and will be accountable for advising on terrestrial environmental matters across our global project portfolio. A key component of the role will be working collaboratively with project development teams and consultants, to ensure that all environmental baseline studies and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are completed to Good International Industry Practice (GIIP) and aligned with International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Fortescue standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • You will act as Fortescue Energy's Terrestrial Environment Subject Matter Expert (SME)
    • You will provide strategic technical guidance on international lender expectations (such as IFC) to ensure these requirements are adequately implemented throughout project development. This will include a robust understanding of the international environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) process and environmental requirements of each approval phase, including baseline data collection requirements.
    • You will demonstrate a proactive approach to environmental approvals, baseline data collection and environmental mitigation to ensure all environmental requirements and project milestones are met.
    • In addition, you will ensure the environmental aspects of Projects meet Fortescue's environmental safeguards to ensure all internal and external requirements are met. You will provide strategic advice on good international industry practice for environment performance and work collaboratively across the business.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A degree in applicable discipline e.g. environmental science, ecology, biological sciences.
    • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.

    • Holistic understanding to environmental requirements, such as waste, air quality, marine / terrestrial interfaces.
    • Ability and willingness to work extended hours and to travel across the region as and when required by the role.
