Your New Role and Responsibilities
As the lead of a software engineering team, you will provide innovative and high-value solutions to a variety of complex technical challenges for our customer to build and maintain various Geospatial systems.
Involved in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) that includes planning, design, development and testing, you will be frequently applying a broad range of tools and latest technologies, and exploring creative ways and new approaches to implementing software solutions.
You will be an established software engineer with extensive experience in languages such as Java, JavaScript, C#, Go and Python as well as application frameworks, API services development, secure development practices, and enterprise integration patterns and products.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Drive software architecture, design, development, and prototyping to determine optimal engineering approaches and methodologies.
- Collaborate with System Engineers to analyse, refine, and define technical and functional requirements.
- Oversee coding, unit testing, system integration, and end-to-end validation to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Manage tools customisation, system integration, release management, and deployment activities.
- Champion software quality, engineering best practices, and ongoing research and development initiatives.
What You'll Bring to Make An Impact
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent experience) with relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience in a senior engineering role within a complex engineering or project-based environment.
- Experience developing and integrating geospatial systems and applications.
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (including Scrum and Kanban) and modern software delivery practices.
- Hands-on experience with system integration (REST, SOAP, messaging), open-source technologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and collaboration/project tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

This role does requires the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold an active TSPV Clearance, accompanied by the ability to be successful for a DISA/OSA.
