    Please note this position will be transitioning to Queensland Police Service (QPS) as part of a Machinery of Government Change prior to 30 June 2024, with the State Emergency Services (SES) due to become an entity of the QPS. As part of this transition, you will be required to undergo QPS vetting in accordance with the Police Service Administration Act 1990.

    SES is the primary responder for storm and flood events and provide support to other agencies such as Queensland Police Service through performing additional functions including search and rescue, emergency traffic management, and road crash rescue. The SES becomes involved in preparing for, and responding to, many different types of disasters and emergencies.

    Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be responsible for providing high-level timely and confidential advice and support to the Regional Director and SES senior leadership team. You will ensure the responsibilities and statutory obligations are delivered and achieved, in relation to governance and financial management processes and standards. You will manage the optimal operation of the Regional Director's office and associated governance, financial and administrative functions, leading and managing the support team and providing support to the staff of the region.

    Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

    QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

    • Knowledge of and experience with Government governance and reporting systems and processes.

    Special requirements
    • The incumbent will be appointed as a staff member of the SES and the hours of duty applicable to this role are pursuant to the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award - State 2015: specifically, the spread of ordinary hours for SES staff are 0600 to 2200, Monday to Sunday.
    • It is expected the incumbent will participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster during emergency operations. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include travel to rural and remote communities, intrastate or interstate travel as necessary and/or deployment activities to other parts of the state.

    Responsibilities

    Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
    • Manage the work program and administration of the Region, including governance and financial management, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective dissemination of information and achievement of work priorities.
    • Provide high level support and strategic advice to the Regional Director regarding the development and ongoing management, and performance against agreed objectives, of the Region's annual budget in accordance with operational plans and departmental requirements.
    • Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of the Regional Plans, and provide regular reports on the achievement of objectives within the Region.
    • Prepare, contribute to and quality check correspondence, briefs, reports, and submissions ensuring actions and priorities are addressed and accurate and appropriate replies formulated.
    • Represent and promote the interests of the Region at internal and external meetings and forums and negotiate agreed outcomes as required.
    • Build and sustain partnerships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, and actively identify opportunities to engage these stakeholders on initiatives, to effectively liaise and negotiate agreed outcomes on difficult and complex agreements, projects and program issues.
    • Lead and manage significant projects on a diverse range of issues that impact the Region's business and participate in divisional and departmental initiatives to support ongoing improvement strategies.
    • Lead and manage an administration team that fosters team work and includes the ongoing development of staff through performance, planning and review.
