    Client
    Our client, Jelbart Dairy, is a family owned and operated business based in South Gippsland, Victoria. It is a progressive mixed dairy and beef business milking up to 1,200 cows and with a further 1,400 head of dairy replacements, Holstein steers and F1 wagyu cross calves. The farm is operated over a land area of 870 hectares of dryland improved pastures and employ around 18 FTE. Due to the forthcoming retirement of the incumbent, we are now searching for an experienced Dairy Manager.

    Role
    The Dairy Manager, reporting to the General Manager, will manage the day-to-day running of the farm and rostering the staff. It is a hands-on role and requires active involvement in operational activities. This person will focus on achieving the profitability and production targets each year, with high pasture and other feed utilisation whilst also delivering a targeted farm surplus. This will be achieved by using sustainable production, staffing and management systems.

    Key requirements

    • Must have large dairy herd management experience.
    • Strong people and project management skills including excellent communication with a range of stakeholders such as contractors and external consultants.
    • Be animal focussed and enjoy breeding and working with elite Holstein cows.
    • Advanced bovine nutrition knowledge and have worked with TMR / PMR rations and mix development.
    • Cow health and basic veterinary diagnosis skills including management of AI and breeding programs.
    • Familiar with GEA Dairy Plan and CowScout software or similar.
    • Competent in Microsoft office suite.
    • Be able to operate tractors and farm machinery.

    Location
    The farm is located near Leongatha in the South Gippsland VIC region.

    Remuneration
    A very generous salary is on offer plus superannuation. Accommodation will be provided free of charge, at Inverloch, a seaside town on the South Gippsland coast which is 15 minutes' drive from the farm.
