    About the Role

    At CFA the vegetation management program aims to lessen bushfire risk and severity by managing fuel and enhancing volunteer and staff capacity. This role coordinates regional efforts, partnering with stakeholders to integrate programs across the South West, South East and Greater Metro areas. It collaborates with other agencies for joint planning to reduce bushfire risk and implement sector-wide systems.

    Key responsibilities of the role will include:

    • Coordinate and manage the CFA vegetation program regionally, emphasising service delivery planning.
    • Lead CFA's involvement in sector-wide strategic plans, prioritising vegetation treatment.
    • Offer expert advice for informed decisions whilst mentoring team members. Represent CFA as a subject matter expert and foster regional partnerships.
    • Ensure best-practice decision-making and compliance with policies.
    • Facilitate engagement with landowners and stakeholders.
    • Implement sector-wide systems and oversee budget management and resource allocation.

    About You

    Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

    • Tertiary qualifications in Science, Natural Resource Management or other relevant field, &/or extensive experience in project management / program implementation for bushfire mitigation, fuel management, land management or other relevant field.
    • Significant experience in staff supervision with the ability to lead, motivate and manage team members, to establish priorities and manage competing deadlines for self and others.
    • Demonstrated skills and experience in vegetation management for fire prevention preferably involving planning and implementation of planned burning operations.
    • An ability to contribute to strategic planning for vegetation management, and provide direction and guidance to translate strategic plans into on-ground work programs.
    • Demonstrated skills in program coordination and management of a team.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to build strong relationships w ith stakeholders and represent CFA at external forums.
