    Join our creative and collaborative team in local government as a Team Leader Payroll overseeing the payroll officer team, providing leadership, expert advice and coordination of the delivery of a full complement of Payroll services including payroll processing, reporting, interpretation and application of Council's Enterprise Agreement and compliance with legislative requirements.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Lead the team, creating a values-aligned culture, and build the capacity and capability of the people, processes, and systems within the team to deliver an exceptional payroll experience for our customers and employees.
    • Establish and deliver appropriate and timely payroll practices, creating a positive people experience, whilst complying with Council policies and legislative obligations.
    • Deliver the fortnightly payroll, including but not limited to the accurate processing of associated payroll documentation, preparation and data entry of timesheets, payment of superannuation and other associated processes and payments.
    • Prepare, draft and review correspondence including, preparation of employment contracts, changes to employment arrangements and other HR documentation.
    • Administer and provide advice on remuneration issues, salary packaging and total remuneration packaging details required for governance, payroll and contracts of employment;
    • Undertake relevant salary remuneration surveys and benchmarking, including ABS reporting;
    • Contribute to a proactive approach to the management of risks, which have the potential to impact broadly across the organisation, providing recommendations on payroll practices, and providing solutions to particular concerns or problems.
    • Support the Coordinator Payroll in developing and maintaining Council's Business Continuity Plans for Payroll, and be the designated Alternate Owner of Payroll BCP's.
    • Manage Council's requirements under Vision Super and other choice of fund superannuation schemes as related to Council employees including legislative requirements.
    • Detailed understanding of Council's Enterprise Agreement (EA) conditions and payroll legislation and compliance requirements, and monitoring the implementation of these within the payroll system

    Key skills and experience you'll bring to the role:

    • Experience using Chris21 is essential for this role
    • Extensive experience in working at a senior level in administering payroll in a complex, medium to large sized organisation.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Awards and Industrial legislation applicable to Local Government or equivalent.
    • Proven analytical skills to allow for reporting and reconciling of payroll and statistical data.
    • Leadership skills including the ability to provide guidance, advice, mentoring and support to develop and motivate members of a specialist payroll team.
