    Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS)

    For more than 50 years, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) has developed and been the custodian of a unique collection that has contributed to building understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' culture and heritage.

    AIATSIS care for a growing collection of more than 1 million items encompassing films, photographs, audio recordings, art and objects, printed and other resource material as well as conduct research. With global partnerships that include government, academic and cultural sectors, working with AIATSIS will see you contribute to telling the nation's story.

    The Opportunity

    This is an opportunity for a high performing APS5 to take the next step in their career or would be a great role for an existing APS6 seeking a new challenge. You will join the Ethics Team, which is an integral part of the Research and Education Group and responsible for leading and influencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research, ethics and protocols.

    • Support the embedding sound governance policies and practices within AIATSIS

    • Work with Australia's only national institution focused exclusively on the diverse history, cultures and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia

    The Role

    This position sits within the Research Ethics Committee (REC), a high performing but small team of 3. With some recent staffing changes in the team, this is an opportunity to join an established and small team, and support Research Ethics stakeholders to conduct their research projects in compliance with ethical standards.

    Reporting to the Assistant Director, duties will include:

    • Scheduling and coordinating attendance for monthly REC meetings
    • Conducting high-level quality reviews of research ethics applications
    • Providing/facilitating high-level verbal and written subject matter expert advice to promote compliance with international guidelines, national guidelines, the conditions of ethical approval, research integrity and ethically approved protocols
    • Developing and implementing procedural, operational, corporate, administrative and business support documentation and outcomes, consistent with business requirements and with minimum guidance Managing the timely distribution of research ethics applications for Committee member reviews
    • Contributing to/developing reporting artefacts to explain the status, progress and results for ethical applications and business projects

    The Ideal Person

    You are a high performing APS5 ready for a step up, or an experienced APS6 that can't pass up the opportunity to work with a culturally important Agency. You will have demonstrated executive supportand secretariat experience and can liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, particularly at the executive level.

    You will have a collaborative working style and be able to bring together teams. In addition you will have:

    • Demonstrated experience in the provision of secretariat support services to high level or expert committees
    • A 'can-do' attitude and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment to achieve results, whilst managing demanding lead times and competing priorities
    • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise your workload and support other colleague to achieve business objectives
    • Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal
    • Possess strong written and oral communication ability including demonstrated relationship management capability, well developed negotiation skills and high-level problem-solving ability

    Salary / Rate

    • $80,249 – $91, % Super
    • This role will be offered initially as a 12 month non-ongoing contract, or labour hire or s26 for an exceptional candidate should they require it
    • Only Australian citizens will be considered for this role
    • Must be eligible to obtain/maintain a Baseline clearance
