    Description

    The Assistant Manager, Sentence Management provides support to the Manager and contributes to the day-to-day operations of a unit whilst performing other sentence management functions as required. The position is responsible for quality assurance & governance oversight of tasks completed to ensure compliance with legislation, mandated timeframes, agency directives, procedures & policies for the lawful detention of prisoners, appropriate prisoner security classification and placement in accordance with their delegated authority.

    The Assistant Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of staff and will support the Manager Sentence Management in managing staff performance, training and development, as well as analysing trends and workloads to ensure adequate resource allocation within their teams. This position reports directly to the Manager, Sentence Management services.

    The essential requirements for this role are:

    • Experience and a demonstrated skill set for supervising and leading a team including supporting the Manager in the application of human resource management processes;
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, respond to new and unexpected events and appropriately escalate issues;
    • Experience in the criminal justice environment including the interpretation and application of legislation, policy and practice directives in an operational environment is preferable or alternatively possess a similar work experience that demonstrates your previous exposure to governed systems and an ability to rapidly acquire necessary knowledge;
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain governance and oversight systems including using information to support service delivery and performance as well as to maintain effective quality assurance processes;
    • Strong written and oral communication skills and an attention to detail in this regard including in the preparation of and completion of complex reports, for both internal and external stakeholders; and
    • Proven skills in staff engagement including coaching, mentoring and staff development as well as experience in conducting difficult conversations, negotiating resolutions and appropriately reporting issues and actions.
