    NATURE AND SCOPE:

    Reporting directly to the Center Director and the Pre-K Services Senior Director, the Pre-K (Rising K) Lead Summer Transition Teacher position is responsible for supporting teachers with implementing instruction that supports students who will attend Kindergarten during the upcoming school year.

    The Rising Kindergarten Summer Transition Program (RKSTP) Lead Teacher position is 26-in person days: 23 instructional days with the students and 3 teacher planning days, and this position is funded through the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (Pre-K Division). YMCA Early Learning offers this position during the summer.

    The Lead Teacher is primarily responsible for organizing, planning, organizing, and implementing instruction to support students who will attend Kindergarten during the upcoming school year,

    RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for working with Pre-K students.
  • Implement activities using the Georgia Early Learning Development Standards (GELDS)
  • Collect and upload assessment data as prescribed by HATCH Ignite
  • Prepare in advance lesson plans that include a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities, large groups, small groups, and individualized instruction.
  • Ensure that the classroom is set up and ready for students upon arrival and throughout the day.
  • Create a learning environment that speaks to the goal of the Rising Kindergarten Transition Program.
  • Actively participate in teaching activities by consistently moving around the learning environment indoors and outdoors; sitting or stooping to communicate at the student's eye level.
  • Provide a classroom environment that promotes active learning.
  • Redirect inappropriate behavior in a positive manner that is supportive and non-punitive by utilizing discipline methods that do not include hitting, shoving, pinching, pushing, complete isolation or language that is harmful and hurtful to the students.
  • Responds quickly to a student in distress or crying by immediately calming them in a nurturing and appropriate manner.
  • Account for the student's attendance, and punctuality, and record accurately and promptly in the roll book daily.
  • Follow the Operating Guidelines required by Bright from the Start and YMCA Early Learning.
  • Attend and complete all required training for RSKSTP Pre-K teachers.
  • Behave in a professional manner that is always open, cordial to the children and families, and in the best interest of YMCA Early Learning.
  • Communicate responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership,
  • REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field
  • 1+ years of experience working with Pre-K and or Kindergarten students
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Note: Credentials MUST Be verified in the Georgia Professional Development System (PDS) before applying for this position. Only candidates verified in PDS will be accepted for Pre-Kteaching positions.

    Ergonomics: Sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift to 25 pounds.

    Critical competencies based on needs specific to the role: The Pre-K Lead Teacher will plan and implement instruction to students entering kindergarten that will support them with gaining and strengthening critical skills required to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
