    Iconic Australian organisation steeped in history, with a broad suite of product and service lines is seeking a Communications Advisor to join their collaborative team for an initial 5 month contract to start immediately. Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager and working across the Social Impact and Corporate Communications division.

    The Communications Adviser role is tasked with protecting and enhancing the brand through compelling proactive and reactive strategic storytelling. This key role is pivotal in developing engaging and effective media and communications strategies and also has a component supporting the Internal Communications Manager with the production of the weekly employee newsletter and channel coordination.

    You will be responsible for:

    • Media Relations - manage daily media requests and responses for the organisation on a rotational on-call roster with other advisors
    • Support the Corporate Communications Manager to manage reactive media requests and protect the brand by working closely with key business stakeholders
    • Monitor, develop and implementing media communications which address current and emerging issues
    • Provide advice and manage media briefings for all designated spokespeople including executives and senior management
    • Maximise proactive media opportunities to enhance brand
    • Corporate Communications, Corporate Reputation and Issues Management – support Corporate Communications Manager in delivery of high level strategic external facing communications support for product areas, community initiatives and corporate activities.
    • Support Internal Communications Manager on the weekly production and distribution of the employee email newsletter.
    • Support Internal Communications Manager on the coordination of materials on internal communications channels
    • Social Media – support the Social Media team with content that aligns with media campaigns and leverages media coverage.
    • Help manage reactive social media issues and take appropriate steps to mitigate any reputational damage

    You will have:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations or Corporate Communications
    • 8+ years' experience in a corporate communications or public relations role
    • Extensive media management experience
    • Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills.
    • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
    • Detailed and organised to deliver on deadlines
    • Strong interest in news and the ability to respond quickly to breaking news stories
    • Experience using media monitoring and social media platforms
    • Ability to confidently deal with all levels of management (internal and external) and the ability to forge relationships with key stakeholders
    • Ability to plan and think strategically for implementation of short- and
    • Excellent research and story development skills
    • Flexibility for requirement for 24 x 7 on call on rotational roster and afterhours and weekend work will be required occasionally
