    As a key role reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Team Lead plays a vital part in providing guidance and assistance to staff and residents alike. Team Leads epitomize important work ethics and set the standard for each shift. They advocate for residents, address challenging situations, handle medical emergencies like overdoses, and sustain a safe and inviting space for a vulnerable population.

    The responsibilities align with the needs of our residents and housing initiatives. While not exhaustive, the duties encompass the following areas.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Team Leads oversee the site in the absence of the Site Supervisor, ensuring the well-being of staff and residents. They promote a collaborative team dynamic that emphasizes effective communication and personal development. Team Leads handle incidents with sensitivity and ensure proper resolution while offering support. Additionally, they conduct debrief sessions with the team and residents as necessary.

    Resident and Program Support:

    • Collaborate on resident support plan development and service delivery alongside the Site Supervisor and support team.
    • Conduct wellness checks and assist residents in various activities.
    • Facilitate applications and referrals as needed.
    • Maintain individual resident files and assist with laundry tasks.
    • Empower residents in acquiring independent life skills.
    • Stay updated on relevant laws affecting residents, such as the Mental Health Act and Human Rights regulations.
    • Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage tense situations effectively.
    • Engage with partner agencies and professionals for comprehensive support.
    • Supervise daily shelter/housing operations to ensure safety in the absence of senior staff.
    • Collaborate with the team on resident engagement strategies.
    • Conduct room inspections and follow-ups per schedule.

    Organizational and Site Management:

    • Provide genuine leadership and support to the team and residents.
    • Assign and oversee daily tasks efficiently.
    • Handle maintenance issues promptly and report as per guidelines.
    • Assist in data collection for reporting purposes.
    • Adhere to incident reporting and health & safety protocols.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and work safe procedures.
    • Understand and adhere to partnership agreements with law enforcement.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of homelessness, mental health, and addiction issues.
    • Training in crisis intervention and harm reduction approaches.
    • Familiarity with resources for families and residents.
    • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to set personal boundaries effectively.
    • Physically capable of lifting objects up to 30 lbs and performing various tasks.
    • Comfortable working in challenging environments.
    • Effective at managing intense situations calmly and professionally.

    Qualifications

    Education and knowledge:

    • Diploma in a related human or social services field.

    Training and Experience:

    • Minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience.

    OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    Working Conditions/Compensation:

    Shifts: Full-time, three 12-hour night shifts (36 hours/week) on Thurs/Fri/Sat (7pm to 7am).

    Compensation: $30.75 to $35.29 per hour, with an additional $1 per hour for night shifts.

    Benefits: Vacation accrual at 6%, eligibility for employer-paid comprehensive benefits after probation.

    This role mandates union membership.
