    The opportunity

    Various one or two week locums from September 2023 to April 2024

    Located in the island's largest town, Currie, the practice serves a resident population of around 1,500 plus all of the visitors who regularly come to the island. The medical practice has been caring for the health and well-being of the King Island community for many years and also offers on-call support to the King Island Hospital.

    You will receive on and off-site operational and clinical management support. A range of fantastic Allied Health professionals regularly visit the island.

    General Practice sessions Monday to Friday with a share of on-call for Emergencies with one other Doctor.

    The location

    Located in Bass Strait to the North-West of Tasmania, King Island is stunningly rugged and beautiful. The island's three main towns of Currie, Grassy and Naracoopa are friendly and relaxed with a wide variety of excellent coffee shops and restaurants serving some of the Island's world-famous produce, including gourmet cheese and the sumptuous local crayfish.

    The rest of the island is a paradise of picture-postcard landscapes, diverse wildlife, pristine beaches and world-class surf breaks. King Island also boasts two exceptional golf courses, Ocean Dunes and Cape Wickham, both of which are consistently ranked in the top 5 in Australia, and it has a proudly independent community with a rich history. There are regular flights to and from the Island from Launceston and Wynyard in Tasmania as well as from Melbourne on the mainland.

    Essential criteria

    You will need to be a Vocationally Registered General Practitioner (FRACGP or FACRRM) with prior experience in a rural setting. Current ALS2 or equivalent is also essential.
