    The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

    The Team

    The Media and Digital Engagement team is a small, dynamic and fast-paced team, responsible for providing external communications services covering digital and social media channel management, including other media and public relations duties.

    The team is responsible for undertaking complex and sensitive work, under broad direction. At event time, these roles engage in delivering critical election activities in a high-pressured environment, involving building, and working with an expanded team.

    The Opportunities

    This is an exciting opportunity for creative and skilled practitioners to be involved in the strategic development and management of AEC digital and social media activities. The right people will be able to design high quality content across a range of platforms; and to support other media and public relations activities.

    This recruitment process is to fill a current APS6 vacancy and expected APS5 vacancy.

    Media and Digital Engagement Officer – APS Level 5

    The successful candidate will use their expertise and knowledge in communications to inform key stakeholders and the Australian community about their electoral rights and responsibilities via AEC digital channels.

    This role contributes to the development, planning and delivery of strategic AEC social content, and assists with social listening and community management, and responsible for undertaking moderately complex and sensitive work under limited direction.

    To excel you'll have:

    • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of a range of communication activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within the team, as well as the ability to effectively communicate and manage relationships with stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.
    • Ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner, while committing energy and drive to see that goals are achieved, especially during a federal event.

    Senior Communications Officer – APS Level 6

    The successful candidate will coordinate multiple activities, including planning and managing project timeframes whilst ensuring project outcomes are met, as well as managing external service providers and internal stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities in this role will include management of social media content creation, community management and social listening.

    To excel you'll have:

    • The ability to strategically develop and manage contemporary media and communications platforms, including digital and social media channels.
    • Experience in creating high-quality communication content aligned to business priorities and for a range of audiences.
    • Ability to exercise strategic judgement while providing expert and timely communications advice to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong organisational skills, with experience in delivering results within time restraints and with multiple competing priorities.
    • Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.
    • Ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner, while committing energy and drive to see that goals are achieved, especially during a federal event.
    • AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
