    At Healthscope we realise how hard you've studied to get to this point. Taking the next step in your career is an important milestone. With us you can kick start your employment as an early career nurse or midwife through our comprehensive and individually tailored program. With full time or part time options available (minimum 0.8 FTE), our 12-month program is coupled with an additional Consolidation Year to further support your transition to practice and develop your clinical skills and knowledge.

    As the only national private hospital operator and healthcare provider in Australia, our 38 sites offer a range of acute, medical, surgical, mental health and rehabilitation services to the communities we care for.

    John Fawkner Private Hospital, formerly Sacred Heart Hospital, was built by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and opened its doors in September 1939. At that time it was a 155 bed not-for-profit hospital. The hospital is now a fully accredited 186 bed major acute medical and surgical hospital which provides a 24 hour Emergency Department supported by a five bed Intensive Care Unit, 12 bed Critical Care Complex and 24 hour on-site medical cover.

Supported by the latest technology and an exciting $55 million upgrade, we offer state of the art surgical, medical, cancer, coronary and intensive care. We are renowned for complex surgery, with our Critical Care Complex being the only one of its type in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, providing intensive and high-dependency care post-surgery.

As our community has a high percentage of non-English speaking residents, and is comprised of many nationalities and religions, we realise that our services must be sensitive to the cultural needs of these groups.

    We demonstrate this by providing access to an interpreter service, foreign language advertising, accredited private specialists from a diverse range of cultural groups, accredited or employed health care staff who reflect the cultural diversity of the north-western suburbs, pastoral care and chaplaincy services across most religions and food services and menu selections sensitive to the needs of all nationalities and religious backgrounds.

    Registered Nurses at Healthscope perform a wide range of activities in pursuit of delivering a high quality patient experience. Every day is different and may include assessing patients, administering medications, providing wound care and educating patients and their families about health conditions. You will need to collaborate with other healthcare professionals, advocate for your patients and provide support to patients and their families. You will have the opportunity to continually develop, improve and promote best evidence-based practice.
