The City of Salisbury is looking for a dynamic and visionary leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as the Manager, Community Wellbeing and Sport. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of our diverse and vibrant community by leading a team of professionals in the areas of social and recreational policy and planning, service delivery and contract management.

Salisbury is a local government entity encompassing an area of 158km2 with a diverse population of about 144,000, just a 30 min drive from the CBD or a 25min commute via rail. Council's Vision is to be a progressive, sustainable and connected community.

As the Manager, Community Wellbeing and Sport, you will be responsible for leading teams in delivering a range of programs, services and facilities that enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of our residents. You will provide strategic advice and analysis on key issues and opportunities facing the City, such as the cost of living, housing and homelessness, city safety, social isolation, physical activity and other quality of life factors.

Core strategic projects include the Thrive Strategy and associated action plans, as well as the brand new Salisbury Aquatic Centre, both of which aim to create a thriving, connected and resilient community.

The role also oversees Council's three-year event calendar and public art programs, including Salisbury Fringe Carnival, as well as the City's Reconciliation Action Plan, due for renewal in 2024.

The role will also maximise community benefits from our recreational assets, identifying new opportunities for improvement, and providing advice on the long-term recreation needs and interests of the community. These community and recreational assets include facilities such as Bridgestone Athletics Centre, Salisbury Aquatic Centre, indoor recreation centres, Little Para Golf Club and the Salisbury Memorial Park. You will undertake new contract negotiations as required to ensure long term sustainability and maximum community benefit, whilst providing strategic leadership to sporting clubs within the Salisbury area, ensuring sustained and planned growth, financial sustainability, accessibility, diversity and inclusion.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

    • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in a senior management role in the areas of social and/or recreational planning, service delivery and contract management.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans, policies and programs that align with organisational objectives and community needs.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate a diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and excellence.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Executive Management, Team Members, Divisional Managers, Elected Members, stakeholders and partners, based on a model of partnership and shared achievement.
    • Demonstrated ability to represent and advocate for the City of Salisbury in a professional and positive manner, promoting the City as a progressive, sustainable and connected City.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and competing priorities, budgets and resources, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of outcomes.

This is a full-time, 5 year contract with a salary range of $ $ per annum (total cost).
