    Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder

    The Clinical Coding Service at Austin Health is looking for experienced Health Information Managers / Clinical Coders to join our expanding Clinical Coding Service to fill new Full Time and Part Time positions.

    In 2023 we moved to new office space on Mount Street Heidelberg with convenient access to Heidelberg Station, Burgundy Street shopping precinct and a private carpark. We have restructured our service to include three Senior Health Information Manager – Team Leaders who, in addition to the Coding Manager and Grade 3 staff, provide leadership, support and guidance to the Coding Team. We offer flexible work arrangements including ADOs and the ability to work from home up to 40% of rostered hours.

    About the position:

    • High quality clinical coding using ICD-10-AM 12th edition.
    • Be accountable for the application of the Australian Coding Standards and ensure consistent application in the abstraction of clinical information for disease and procedure classification.
    • Ensuring that coding is completed in a timely manner to ensure internal and external deadlines are achieved.
    • Participation in Austin Health's Clinical Coding audit program.
    • Liaison with clinicians and other health professionals to clarify and seek further information regarding coding queries.
    • Participation in the comprehensive and ongoing coding education program.
    • Optimise the quality of the coding by participating in and taking responsibility for continuous quality improvement strategies and audits.

    About you:

    • Bachelor / Masters of Health Information Management or Intermediate or Advanced Clinical Coder certification, or equivalent.
    • Eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
    • Excellent clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM 12th edition and a good understanding of Casemix/Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs)
    • Sound working knowledge of the Australian Coding Standards and their application.
    • Minimum of one year coding experience in a public hospital.
    • Demonstrated ability to work to a high standard autonomously and as part of a team.
    • Ability to achieve deadlines while still producing high quality work with attention to detail.
