Job description

In support of this growth, we are looking for a Senior Underground Project Engineer to join our team to deliver on our growth plans and be a part of this exciting future.

Reporting directly to the Senior Superintendent – Integrate Mine Planning, the role of Senior Underground Project Engineer role is responsible for overseeing the development, execution and operation of all underground mining projects and associated surface infrastructure. The primary focus is to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable production from the underground mines while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Underground Project Engineer works closely with Mining Operations, Projects, Geology, Survey, and Maintenance to deliver engineering studies into fully functional operational assets.

Key responsibilities include:

Develop, maintain and update the underground master project schedule aligned with mine production plans, resource availability and key milestones.
Monitor progress against the critical path, identify scheduling risks or delays, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery.
Prepare and present regular progress reports, dashboards and forecasts to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting performance, variances and recovery actions.
Provide frontline and ad-hoc engineering support to underground operational and project execution teams, troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
Work closely with Supervisors, Superintendents and site crews to ensure works are delivered safely, to design specifications and in accordance with quality standards.
Support day-to-day underground operations with practical engineering guidance to maintain safe, efficient and productive development and infrastructure installation.
Deliver technical input, mentorship and training to junior engineers and site teams, promoting best practice in underground mining, ground control, ventilation and infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards, while collaborating with specialist stakeholders to implement improvements that enhance safety, cost efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent), relevant professional accreditation, and a current Light Vehicle Licence.
5–10 years' experience in underground mining environments, including a minimum of 5 years in operational roles.
Demonstrated proficiency in 3D mine planning systems such as Deswik or Vulcan.
Practical experience with bulk underground mining methods such as LHOS & Avoca with exposure to cemented backfill highly regarded.
Sound understanding of underground safety standards, ground control and geotechnical support requirements, with familiarity of Australian mining regulations.
Technical knowledge of mine ventilation and/or mine dewatering systems (highly regarded).
Proven experience in short-term and/or operational mine planning, working closely with multidisciplinary site teams.
Experience operating in Laos or the Southeast Asia region is advantageous.
