    Six Degrees Executive has partnered with Bucher Municipal as they recruit a Software/Automation Engineer to join their Melbourne based Engineering team. This newly created permanent role will have a strong focus on custom solutions, new product applications and Research and Development projects.

    The opportunity:

    Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Electrical, you will be joining a friendly and collaborative team with the primary focus being to design a variety of engineering solutions on mobile and static waste, and mobile vacuum equipment.

    The role will see you work on a variety of current projects such as updating functionality with machines, working with the customer or scoping requirements or external software providers and much more.

    About the role:

    You will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

    • Design and optimisation Codesys PLC software for mobile and static refuse compactors, road sweepers and mobile vacuum equipment.
    • Development and support of IoT solutions on complete range of equipment
    • Electrical design as specified through the Research & Development program
    • Provide customer specific concepts and solutions.
    • Provide assistance to Application & Product Design Engineering
    • Provide product technical support and assistance to Sales, Operations and Customer Service

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Specify, document, write, test and maintain software for a range of mobile equipment
    • Design of control systems for refuse, vacuum and sweeper equipment
    • Integration of IoT and remote access systems into new and existing equipment
    • Liaise with other departments to review design issues and attend to the technical aspects of requests
    • Support in the management of fleet and 3rd party installations
    • Perform research and concept for allocated projects.
    • Collaborate with cross functional teams.
    • Ensure solutions meet safety, regulatory and industry standards.
    • Support new projects through manufacturing and assembly.
    • Optimize designs with manufacturing teams.
    • Create documents and reports supporting new design, test results and lessons learned.
    • Present projects and findings to stakeholders through the business.
    • Review opportunities to reduce cost through design, process and supply.
    • Assist in the preparation of technical details for sales and marketing.

    About you:

    To be considered for this role, you will need (but not limited to) the following:

    • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or equivalent
    • Demonstrable skills in coding – experience with PLC software would be an advantage.
    • Proven experience in Codesys or similar IEC environment
    • Demonstrated application of software development processes and documentation
    • Good practical understanding of Industry 4.0 / IoT implementations
    • Experience in the design of systems for mobile equipment
    • Experience with automotive/commercial vehicle electrical systems and CANbus
    • Background of fault-finding software and hardware issues
    • Knowledge in hydraulic, pneumatic, water and electrical systems, with an auxiliary engine an advantage
    • Familiar with CAD packages (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Zuken e3)
    • Industry knowledge in either municipal, agricultural or automotive industry (Heavy Vehicles).
    • A team player with vision and the ability to add value through one's own work.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the concepts and major issues emerging within the area of expertise.
    • Ability to liaise with all levels of staff, both internal and external to the organisation.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
    • Ability to manage one's own time, set priorities, plan and organise work in order to meet objectives.
    • Ability to produce results despite conflicting pressures and competing demands

    Note: Due to the nature of this role, you are required to be onsite 5 days with occasional travel required.
