    Project Development Director/Manager

Fantastic Opportunity for a Project Development Director to Join One of Australia's Leading Renewable Energy Companies

    Job Summary

My client is a market-leading success story in the Australian renewable energy sector. An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Project Development Director to join their dynamic team.

This role focuses on the origination and development of their portfolio of renewable energy and storage projects.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in renewable energy project origination, planning, and development, or advisory roles in a similar domain.

We are seeking a strong communicator, equally adept at working independently and collaboratively within a team.

Above all, we seek an individual who is passionate about our values and goals. The selected candidate will receive a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with their experience.

    Location:

The successful applicant will likely be based in Sydney, with flexibility for the right candidate to be based in Brisbane.

    The Role:

The Project Development Director will closely collaborate with the origination and project development team, focusing on the development of renewable energy projects, including solar, battery storage, hybrid generators, and hydrogen.

The candidate will have the necessary experience and skills to be responsible for or assist in the following core areas:

    • Developing the existing pipeline of projects.
    • Identifying ideal locations for future renewable energy and storage projects and executing on securing and developing projects in those locations.
    • Negotiating landowner agreements, including options to lease, options to purchase, and co-development agreements, in conjunction with our commercial and legal teams.
    • Conducting and reviewing site assessment reports for new projects, including planning aspects and grid connection availability, potentially involving travel for physical site visits.
    • Leading the development approval application process and collaborating with the team on the grid application process for new sites.
    • Procuring and managing environmental and planning consultants for the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements, EPBC referrals, and related studies to obtain planning and development approvals.
    • Leading stakeholder and community engagement, including interactions with local landowners, neighbours, and government agencies.
    • Collaborating with the team on joint venture and project acquisition opportunities, including due diligence activities.
    • General project management activities across the development portfolio, including project scheduling and budget administration.
    • Working with key stakeholders, including landholders, local and state governments, advisers, and regulatory bodies.

While the core areas mentioned above are prerequisites for the role, my client encourages candidates with an engineering background (electrical or mechanical) and experience in renewable energy generation to apply.

The candidate will have opportunities to contribute across various areas of the business based on their experience and preferences, including:

    • Contribution to and assessment of new business growth opportunities.
    • Participation in later-stage project development activities, including project design, construction contracting strategy, tenders, and OEM selection and assessment.
    • Involvement in the grid connection process.

    The ideal candidate should also:

    • Be a good communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Be a problem solver with strong negotiation skills, both technically and commercially, and a deep understanding of key risks and risk allocation in energy projects.
    • Have a strong desire to make an impact on climate change.
    • Be committed to delivering results, thriving as a team player in a high-performing small team environment.

If you are ready to be part of a team that is making a positive impact on the environment and pushing the boundaries of renewable energy, we encourage you to apply.
