    The Project:

    Located in the small suburb of Loxford in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, approximately three km north of the town of Kurri Kurri, approximately 35 km west of Newcastle and 125 km north of Sydney.

    The Hunter Power Project is the construction of a 660MW Power Station comprising of two heavy-duty open cycle gas turbines. Located in the in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, 35 km west of Newcastle.

    Key responsibilities and accountabilities

    Safety

    ·Undertake all responsibilities in a safe manner.

    ·Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors and visitors.

    ·Participate in daily pre-start meetings.

    ·Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, pre-work checklists and risk assessments.

    ·Comply and have input into safe working procedures

    ·Report hazards, incidents and accidents within company guidelines.

    ·Assist with safety sections for reports, tenders and proposals.

    ·Actively participate in safety training.


    Technical

    ·Monitor contract terms and conditions and ensure adherence to these.

    ·Monitor and manage UGL employees and subcontractors to ensure professional standards are maintained.

    ·Co-ordinate resources to fulfil project plan.

    ·Maintain constant open communication with and clear direction for all relevant staff, remaining acutely aware of all tasks and activity on the project at all times

    ·Liaise with other area Superintendents to maximise efficiencies during work planning.

    ·Responsible for ensuring that new employees that are working in the area have received the required inductions and training appropriate to their tasks.

    ·Supervises work carried out to ensure high quality of workmanship and efficiency.

    ·Monitors progress of all work, identifies need for changes to workforce and directs Supervisor to allocate alternative work as and when necessary.

    ·Attends meetings with Construction Team as and when required to ensure communication of Project objectives to all participants.

    ·Ensures correct material is available through coordination with the Material Management Group and Project Planners, raising requisitions and liaising with the Purchasing Officers for materials and equipment that is not Client supplied.

    ·Ensures plant and equipment is available and suitable for jobs by planning and assessing needs.

    ·Ensures labour and supervisory staff is available by assessing needs and making arrangements for them to be available on site.

    ·Closely monitor the working team's environment, quickly identifying and eliminating any potential conflict or issues and resolving prior to escalation

    ·Track daily and weekly attendance and overall working hours, taking care to ensure weekly timesheet accuracy, including the capturing of any relevant travel time or other forms of allowances

    ·Ensure all relevant compliance and staff development training takes place to ensure project's needs are met

    ·Working with HR's guidance/assistance, ensure all new starters' inductions take place on day one (when practicable) and that a "first week with UGL" itinerary is mapped out, regardless of project.

    ·Assist with QA documentation around Certifiable works.


    Team management & Development Responsibilities

    ·Provide leadership, direction, supervision and inspirational management to all team members (direct & indirect).

    ·Establish clear communication, solid lines of control and delegation to sub-ordinates and actively create and maintain a culture of openness, responsiveness, honest, ethics and responsibility across the team.

    ·Manage the selection and training of all team members, building a high skilled, performance focused, innovative, passionate team.

    ·Establish appropriate and effective KPI's for all direct team members that allow performance to be clearly measured.

    ·Conduct Performance Development sessions with all direct reports in line with Company policy including consequence management where required and developmental requirements aligned with succession plans.

    Other

    ·Enthusiastically and co-operatively undertake all site inductions as requested by the client.

    ·Proactively continuously monitor and evaluation systems and procedures specific to site works to ensure that they are up to date, compliant and up-to-date in line with best practice.

    ·Actively participate in regular learning and development programs to continually enhance and further develop skills and continuously improve capabilities and performance.

    ·Portray a professional approach at all times through attitude and appearance.

    ·Ensure that work space is well managed, tidy, organised and safe.

    ·Comply with all UGL systems and processes and expected behaviours and standards.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    ·5 years' experience in similar role

    ·Trade Qualification

    ·Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally

    ·Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands

    ·Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, Access, email
