If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Infrastructure and Security Engineer position at Yarra City Council

    As an Infrastructure and Security Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining the IT infrastructure and security systems of Yarra City Council. You will ensure the availability, performance, and security of the IT services and assets, as well as the compliance with relevant standards and policies.
  • Performing security assessments and audits of the Council's IT infrastructure, applications, and processes to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and gaps. You will develop, implement, and maintain security solutions such as firewalls, antivirus, encryption, authentication, backup, disaster recovery, etc.
  • Monitoring and responding to security incidents and events using various tools and techniques such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, log analysis, forensics, etc. You will conduct security awareness training and education for IT staff and users on topics such as phishing, password management, social engineering, etc.
  • Researching and evaluating emerging security trends, threats, technologies, and best practices to ensure the Council's security posture is up to date and aligned with industry standards. You will document and update security policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards in accordance with the Council's requirements and regulations.
  • Collaborating with other IT teams and stakeholders to provide security input and support for IT projects and initiatives. You will report on security metrics and performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of security controls and initiatives.
  • To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information security, or related field or/and comparable work experience; or equivalent field with several years' relevant experience in computer security and/or IT or less formal qualifications with extensive experience
  • Substantial experience in a similar position
  • Certification in information security such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, SANS, etc. is highly desirable.
  • Certification in Microsoft security such as SC-900, SC-400, SC-300, SC-200 is highly desirable.
  • Other, relevant to our IT environment, technological certifications
  • High level of technical competency in implementation of required solutions and security projects
  • Awareness of new technologies and trends in IT industry
  • Well-developed analytical, problem resolution skills
  • A current Victorian Driver's license is essential
  • Several years of demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Azure Sentinel or related technologies.
