    About the Opportunity

    As Submarine Safety Superintendent, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the submarine's SUBSAFE boundary through the provision of SUBSAFE services and contributing to the maintenance of submarine safety when in ASC Material Control (MATCON).

    Responsibilities

    • Coordination and oversight of submarine SUBSAFE related activities.
    • Conduct SUBSAFE Coordinator role for designated periods.
    • Provide professional guidance and advice to SCG personnel.
    • Chair the Submarine Plan of the Day (SPOD) meetings and produce minutes as a member of Submarine Safety Council during maintenance availabilities.
    • Conduct and coordinate witnessing activities and other functionality tests to support the management of the SUBSAFE boundary.
    • Manage/Operate the Submarine Safety Control Centre.
    • Maintenance of the SUBSAFE certification boundary during maintenance activities.
    • Acting quickly to make complex decisions in relation to SUBSAFE integrity and compliance.

    About you

    Whilst this position does not have any direct reports, the successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with the SCG team and the wider business.

    In addition to this, our successful candidate will possess:

    • A Lead Auditor in Quality Management System.
    • SUBSAFE Level 3 (Material Safety Course).
    • Appropriate Trade Certification with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a maritime, naval or dockyard environment.
    • 5 years of experience with Collins Class Submarines
    • Proven engineering knowledge of systems or equipment on board ships and/or submarines
    • Defence industry experience and/or detailed knowledge of submarine operations specifically in areas of equipment, systems and personnel safety.
    • Strong computer and MS Office skills.
    • Strong time management skills and ability to juggle changing priorities.
    • A current Australian Defence Security clearance or eligibility to obtain one to the level of NV1.

    Eligibility

    This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

    Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
