    Work Location: Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

    Roster: Monday to Friday (Open to part-time for the right candidate)

    Join the Perth-based Water Planning team to assist with hydrogeology planning for our Chichester Operations. The Chichester Operations is one of the largest, most complex dewatering systems in the world and integrates mine dewatering, water supply and managed aquifer recharge. The role will primarily assess two-year mine plans and will support ten year and life of mine plan assessments as well as interface with projects and operational teams regarding project implementation and ongoing assessment of aquifer response to dewatering.

    Reporting to the Senior Hydrogeologist, the position requires excellent communication, time management and technical skills to ensure robust hydrogeological assessments are completed on time and are effectively communicated to the business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop dewatering, re-injection and water supply plans based off of two-year, ten year and life of mine plans
    • Communicate results of hydrogeological assessments to water projects and water-well drilling teams to initiate project execution
    • Assess hydrogeological responses to abstraction and injection for the purpose of re-conceptualisation and adaptive management
    • Provide technical guidance and support to operational staff and other business units
    • Undertake hydrogeological reporting as required for approvals and regulatory commitments
    • Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, influence decision making regarding water management
    • Respecting and considering environmental and heritage values in all aspects of work

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology or Geosciences, MSc in Hydrogeology preferred
    • Relevant applied experience in Hydrogeology and mine water management
    • Knowledge of hydrogeological modelling, monitoring analysis, interpretation, and reporting
    • Competent use of hydrogeological software packages (i.e. Leapfrog)
    • Strong data management and manipulation skills
    • Effective communication, time management skills and willingness to spend short durations on site
