    Description

    About the Role

    BHP is in search of a Geotechnical Engineer, who can play an integral role in our mine planning processes. Located at the Broadmeadow Mine, you will have the opportunity to work at one of the premiere underground coal mines in the Bowen Basin.

    Reporting to the Superintendent Geology and Geotechnical,

    }you will offer geotechnical engineering support to Development and Production areas of the underground mine, to enable safe execution of mine plans, provide input to mine design, and work across departments to ensure compliance to strata management systems. You will be responsible for the following:

    • Accountable for geotechnical processes, procedures and outcomes as defined in Principal Hazard Management Plans, site planning and operational systems.
    • Provide geotechnical advice in relation to mine plans, strata control, hazard management and provide geotechnical support to operations and short to long term planning, including the development of strata support plans.
    • Conduct investigations into geotechnical concerns to identify areas of risk and, where required, develop management plans with recommendation to mitigate.
    • Develop recommendations for the management of hazards within the operational areas in consultation with risk & control owners, ensuring effective engagement with key stakeholders.
    • Maintain records and report information relevant to geotechnical hazards
    • Communicate with personnel, contractors & key stakeholders to share safety information and risk management activities pertaining to geotechnical hazard management.
    • Comply with regulations, policies, standards and procedures.

    About You

    • You must possess a suitable tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering.
    • You will have good working knowledge and experience of underground coal mining operations.
    • Experience with VULCAN, Deswik, AutoCAD, and specialist software such as LVA would also be an advantage.
    • You will be able to work autonomously and utilise your strong written and verbal communication skills to build strong working relationships and work effectively within a self motivated team.
    • You pride yourself on strong analytical and report writing skills supported by maintaining comprehensive data records. It is essential that you possess a strong understanding of technical risk and can demonstrate safe behaviour within an operational environment.
