    Job Overview


    Joining Komatsu Australia's Longwall AFC Applications team in Rutherford, means you'll be joining a network of world-class engineers and draftspersons as they deliver cutting edge mining projects locally, and on a global scale.

    Reporting to the Principal Engineer – Australia and joining a local, tight-knit team, as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you'll contribute to, and be supported by, the wider Global AFC team that reaches across Europe and the United States.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • The preparation of design layouts, models, and other engineering specifications to consistently execute contracts to a high standard and performing engineering evaluations including investigations, complex calculations, and tests
    • Lead or perform in engineering projects to develop, maintain, and support components, products and/or services per market demands
    • Initiating and participating in cost reduction and value analysis projects in an ongoing effort to reduce manufacturing costs and optimise component design.
    • Review and approve current engineering records before they are released to Manufacturing for production and technical publications and providing technical assistance/liaison to manufacturing
    • Review customer orders to determine and schedule new engineering to support them.
    • Recognize the need for field retrofits for reliability or safety and initiating Field Campaign projects.
    • Provide innovative changes to existing designs or conceptual thinking to new designs for CTE review.
    • Meet with suppliers concerning changes to or new requirements for their products that may affect Komatsu designs.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering eligible for Engineers Australia Professional status. Advanced Diploma with commensurate experience will also be considered.
    • CPEng or RPEQ qualifications would be considered favourable.
    • Experience in mechanical equipment design, with experience in medium/heavy fabrications. Experience in the mining industry would be highly desirable.
    • A comprehensive knowledge of machine design and drawing requirements, particularly mining equipment and its application will be desirable.
    • 2D and 3D CAD literate with experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault and knowledge of FEA.
    • A knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems and familiar with using Australian or ISO standards where applicable.
    • You will need to be a self-starter and be able to effectively communicate at all levels within the business.
