      About the opportunity

      The Associate Professor/Professor role is designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This Exemption is claimed under Section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

      The Faculty of Medicine and Health is seeking to appoint an Education Focused Associate Professor or Professor of Indigenous Health. Education Focused positions are designed for educators known for their exceptional skills in teaching and curriculum design. This role, which focuses on embedding First Nations histories, cultural protocols, and ways of doing, being, and sharing knowledge into curricula, will provide key leadership in helping the University of Sydney achieve its ambitions under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Plan and the University's One Sydney, Many People Strategy.

      The Associate Professor or Professor Indigenous Health will play a pivotal role in leading the development and integration of First Nations Health teaching and learning experiences across the Faculty and will specifically lead the co-design and development of the Faculty's First Nations Curriculum Framework. This nation-leading Framework seeks to embed First Nations knowledges and pedagogies into the way we do business in each of the faculty's seven schools, and across all of our disciplines and curricula.

      With a focus on innovative curriculum development and scholarship, the Associate Professor or Professor will spearhead projects aimed at exploring pedagogical advancements, coordinate high-quality teaching, and engage in collaborations with key partners, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students and communities. Responsibilities will encompass supervising educational contributions, designing curriculum, and conducting research projects to advance the scholarship of teaching and learning. As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a national or international reputation, you will pioneer initiatives to elevate the University's standing in education, contribute to the development of program-level materials, and represent the institution at global forums, thus solidifying its position as a leader in Indigenous Health education.

      As a successful candidate you will be expected to dedicate most of your contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (70%), while also engaging in research (20%) and governance, leadership, and engagement (10%).

      About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

      The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

      • Evidence of identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
      • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competence.
      • PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or have the equivalent educational, clinical, professional, or First Nations lived experience in your field of teaching expertise.
      • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of strategic issues within the higher education sector.
      • Maintain a broad network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions.
      • International reputation as an authority in educational design and delivery, including recognition for achieving improved or consistently excellent student outcomes, educational innovation, educational leadership and/or well-regarded pedagogical or disciplinary research.
      • A distinguished record of educational excellence, evidenced by contributions to student learning, recognition and innovative practices.
      • A proven record for obtaining external funding for scholarly activities and research.
      • Significant experience in leadership and management within the higher education, including excellence in supervision and/or mentoring.
      • Demonstrated success in leading an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment

        Term and remuneration

        The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
