- Respond to constituent enquiries and carry out case work including researching and preparing correspondence in response to constituent enquiries and portfolio matters.
- Liaise with government departments to provide resolutions to complex issues
- Shared first point of contact for phone-calls and walk-ins to office, in conjunction with other electorate officers.
- Provide assistance with grant opportunities and identification for businesses and community groups.
- Assist with maintaining an accurate community database.
- Assist with issues campaigns.
- Assist with electorate and campaign events and activities, including outside normal office hours.
- Daily management and triage of the Member's email inbox and incoming mail (on a shared and rostered basis with other electorate officers).
- Other duties as directed by the Member/Office Manager
- Work experience in a related role. Experience in a government/politics and community case work role will be highly regarded.
- A keen interest in and understanding of Australian government and the parliamentary process
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Intermediate to advanced IT competence, including in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail
- The ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and meet competing deadlines
- commencing salary within the range of $71,245 and $83,179 (plus superannuation) depending on experience
- an additional optional allowance which may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work

Description
Applications are invited for the position of Electorate Officer in the office of Phillip Thompson OAM MP, Federal Member for Herbert. This full-time position will have a focus on constituent liaison, case management and correspondence, and will be based in the member's Townsville office.
This role would suit someone with proven experience in a community services role who is excited by the opportunity of serving their community while playing a key role in the democratic process.
