Job description
Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As a Senior Project Officer in Marine Biosecurity Response, you will:
- Support the response Incident Coordinator to implement biosecurity response activity which focuses on surveillance, control and containment of Asian green mussel in Weipa.
- Assist with the development and coordination of policy, reports and briefings including implementation of biosecurity control measures such as movement controls.
- Support response plan implementation through procurement and contract development for resources required for the Asian green mussel response in Weipa including specialist contractors.
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess a current "C" class drivers' licence.
This role involves participation in a biosecurity emergency response. Previous experience or training in emergency response is highly regarded. If you do not have this experience, you may be required to undergo training to apply your everyday work capabilities within a biosecurity response environment.
A technical understanding of invasive marine pest biology and control, containment and surveillance methodologies will also be highly regarded.
Regular travel to Weipa and surrounding areas will be a requirement of the role.
