    About Professional Footballers Australia (PFA)

    The PFA is the exclusive representative body and collective bargaining agent of Australia's professional footballers, including players in Australia's premier national men's and women's football competitions, players in Australia's senior men's and women's national teams, and Australian professional footballers employed at professional clubs overseas.

    Purpose of the Role

    The successful applicant's primary responsibilities will be to represent and provide legal advice to the PFA and its members in relation to industrial, employment and regulatory matters.


    This includes:
    assisting the PFA Chief Executives and Management in the implementation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements and other regulatory instruments; and
    supporting PFA members to ensure career longevity.
    The Role

    Licensed legal practitioner with a minimum of two (2) years post-admission experience in contracts, Australian employment and industrial relations law, and/or regulatory compliance.

    The successful applicant's primary responsibilities will be to represent and provide legal advice to the PFA and its members in relation to industrial, employment and regulatory matters.

    This includes assisting the PFA Chief Executives and Management in the implementation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements and other regulatory instruments.

    Key Areas of Responsibility
    Support the PFA in implementing all aspects of the PFA Strategic Framework.
    Work at the direction of the Head of Legal to:implement and ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and assist in the development of the regulatory and statutory framework within Australian football;
    prepare, progress and case manage issues and claims pertaining to industrial and employment matters, members' entitlements, and collective agreement matters, both domestically and internationally;
    provide high-quality legal advocacy for all PFA members; and

    manage the custody of all formal legal agreements entered into by the PFA.Ensure that policy and regulations impacting on PFA members in areas of employment are international best practice.

    Work with the Player Relations and Player Development departments to provide legal and regulatory advice to all PFA members.
    Manage relationships with player agents, including working with PFA Management to convene conferences and other education seminars.
    Selection Criteria | Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour

    Licensed legal practitioner with a minimum of two (2) years post-admission experience in contracts, Australian employment and industrial relations law, and/or regulatory compliance.

    Ability to effectively understand, interpret, and apply legislation and industrial instruments, including collective bargaining agreements.
    Strong advocacy, negotiation, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
    Proficiency in preparing written correspondence and submissions.

    Ability to manage and prioritise a varied caseload, meet deadlines, exercise good judgement and work independently within a small team environment.

    Demonstrated commitment to unionism and a belief in social justice.

    An understanding of the governance structures and regulatory landscape of professional team sports, as well as the legal landscape in which professional team sports and player unions operate.

    The confidence and empathy to work with people at all levels of the PFA and the game.
    Build strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders.

    Major interactions

    This position will have extensive interactions with PFA staff, PFA members, FIFA, FIFPRO, Football Australia, the Australian Professional Leagues, Clubs, Member Federations and player agents.
