    The Role

    Our National Water and Flooding Group is involved in infrastructure projects across road, rail and metro specialising in in surface water and flood risk management. We work with a range of private and government sector clients for land development, flood risk management and infrastructure design projects. Our recent projects include M1 Raymond Terrace, Sydney Metro, Country Rail washaway assessments, flood evacuation plans and more.

    Due to continued growth and the award of many exciting new projects, a permanent full-time opportunity exists in our Sydney office.

    As an Experienced Senior Water Engineer at BG&E, you will report to the NSW Regional Flooding and Water Lead and be responsible for the technical leadership and design associated with flood management for major road, rail, mining, and land/urban development projects. You will work alongside our water and flooding specialists and with BG&E's clients and key stakeholders.

    Key Accountabilities:

    · Technical delivery of hydrologic studies and hydraulic analysis associated with surface water management and flooding including flood modelling, mapping and report writing.

    · Project Management of water and flooding projects including responsibility for junior staff, budgets and deliverables and acting a Water and Floding Technical Lead on major infrastructure projects.

    · Hydraulic design of waterway infrastructure such as bridges, culverts, levees, diversion drains etc and scour protection measures.

    · Design coordination with wider project teams and other disciplines.

    · Mentoring of junior engineers and detailed review of technical work by others.

    · Communicating with clients and other project stakeholders.

    About you

    You have strong technical knowledge to share with a passionate and driven local and national Water and Flooding Team and are able to demonstrate:

    · Tertiary qualifications in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.

    · More than 8 years' experience in flood assessments, hydrology and hydraulic modelling in consulting practices in Australia

    · Competent modeller with ability to develop and review complex hydrology and hydraulic models.

    · Experience in undertaking hydrology assessments including technical understanding of the principles and approaches of Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019, regional and local procedures.

    · Advanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling packages, such as RORB, XP-RAFTS, WBNM, URBS, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, and their advantages and limitations. Experience using 12d and DRAINS will also be highly considered.

    · Practical experience in cross-drainage design, flood mitigation and management for major engineering projects in Australia.

    · Understanding of flood policy, state legislation and approval pathways which guides our work.

    · Experience in major infrastructure projects and experience and/or relationships with relevant State agencies will be favoured.

    · Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to produce clear and meaningful reporting for communicating technical outcomes, presentations and present at client, stakeholder and community meetings.

    · Keen for opportunities to work on a range of projects including but not limited to flood impact assessments for major infrastructure projects, flood hazard mapping for government authorities and agencies and for urban developments, hydrologic studies for resources sector.
