    Water Treatment Operator

    • Permanent Full Time opportunities available (9 day fortnight)
    • Certificate III in Water Treatment (essential)
    • LGE 8 ($68,055 per annum + superannuation)
    • High earnings potential above base salary, with relevant allowances and overtime

    About the role

    This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and safety of Townsville's drinking water supply and will uphold all commitments as stated in Townsville City Council's Drinking Water Policy. To do so, the position will routinely perform sampling and inspection regimes and make operational changes guided by, but not limited to, the Townsville Water Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

    This position will be responsible for servicing a population of approximately 194,072 (and growing) across a minimum of 85,952 connected properties. In the 2018/2019 financial year 46,810ML of potable water was delivered to our customers via 4 treatment plants, 23 water pumping stations, 18 chlorinators, 41 reservoirs and 2,654km of distribution mains.

    About you

    Our ideal candidate will have:

    • Certificate III in Water Treatment is essential.
    • Tertiary qualifications in science for a related discipline would be well regarded.
    • Current Senior First Aid and CPR Certification.
    • Current Confined Space Entry Certification.
    • Construction Industry White Card QLD)
    • C Class Drivers Licence.
    • Current Licence to perform high risk work – LF Forklift Truck.
    • Knowledge of modern water treatment theory and processes.
    • Knowledge of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
    • Skilled in the operation of water treatment process equipment and instruments.
    • Skilled in the application of water treatment principles to potable water systems.
    • Experience in the operation of small conventional and membrane water treatment plants.
    • Experience in the performance of operator level maintenance on water systems.
    • Experience in the operation of SCADA systems, computer-based databases, and material management systems.
    • Experience in the application of Workplace Health and Safety principles to work environments, particularly regarding hazardous goods.
    • Experience in the collection of water quality samples and the interpretation of laboratory results.
    • Participate in on-call rosters and be available for after-hours duties.
