Aboriginal Court Liaison Officer - Sydney

Job summary

This is a dedicated Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. The role of the Aboriginal Court Liaison Officer is to assist with the diversion of defendants who have or are suspected of having a mental illness, mental disorder and/or cognitive impairment from the Criminal Justice System (Court and Correctional Centres) into the community. This will include a focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people by assessing unmet needs and risks, linking them with culturally appropriate care and providing follow up support to improve their likelihood of being successfully diverted to community based mental health care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the diversion of defendants who have or are suspected of having a mental illness, mental disorder and/or cognitive impairment from the Criminal Justice System (Court and Correctional Centres) into the community.
• Focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people by assessing unmet needs and risks, linking them with culturally appropriate care and providing follow up support to improve their likelihood of being successfully diverted to community based mental health care.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current NSW Driver Licence and be willing to travel as and when required.
• Must hold a post graduate qualification in mental health.
• Must hold a Bachelor Degree or higher level relative to role (including Bachelor Health Science (Mental Health) for Djirruwang Program graduates.
