    Curtin's Faculty of Science and Engineering is a place where students and staff alike can apply their studies and research to real-world industry challenges. We are involved in a variety of high-impact research initiatives, across several schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

    Your new role
    We have an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that provides technical instruction and support for undergraduate classes and associated services for teaching and/or research programs.

    You will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of laboratory classes. This includes preparation of laboratory material and maintenance of equipment for undergraduate classes, ordering consumables and equipment for practical classes and planning and testing of experiments before practical classes.

    You will be responsible for providing technical support to research programs, high-end analytical instruments, and the day-to-day requirements of the laboratory.

    You will ensure all Curtin's Health and Safety systems are adhered to, including the development of Risk assessments (RA's) and Safe work practices (SWP's) playing an important role in ensuring that occupational health and safety regulations and specific statutory requirements related to the area's activities are followed.

    No two days are the same, this is an active and engaging role where you will be able to put your strong problem-solving skills to the test.

    You will bring to the role:
  • A degree qualification specialising in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, Science; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to ensuring, Occupational Safety and Health practices, experience in handling and managing dangerous goods hazardous substances and regulations are followed.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff and students at all levels, as well as the ability to effectively communicate information and provide instruction others, including re-enforcing Safety policies and ensuring students always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team as well as independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite and ability to install software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • On the job, external training will be offered as part of the professional development, although prior experience working with analytical instruments (such as ICP-OES/MS, AAS, Master-sizer, UV-Vis, Elemental analyser) would be highly advantageous.
