    HCA Medic Oncall is a leading provider of clinical advisory services, and we are seeking a permanent registered nurse to join our team imbedded at the Department of Home Affairs.

    Registered Nurse

    • Remote work with one keeping in touch day per week based in NSW, WA or ACT
    • Some requirement for travel to detention centres
    • Full time role: 37.5 hour week Monday to Friday during business hours

    The role

    The role includes the provision of clinical assurance advice and guidance across the portfolio functions of the Department including migration, staff health and detention with a focus on the detention space. The Registered Nurse will support these duties and contribute their technical expertise to improve and deliver quality outcomes.

    Working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians the Registered Nurse provides coordination for clinical assurance programs and provides subject matter expertise including technical writing skills for designated projects.

    Your day may include conducting interviews with outsourced providers to the Department, applying assurance tools and using Departmental policy guidelines to ensure care provided to detainees is at the same level as provided to Australian citizens. You will also provide high level reports on the outcomes of these audits and work closely with the Department's outsourced providers to improve detainee health services.

    The Registered Nurse will be required to support the team with managing stakeholders and building organisational trust for the Department.

    About you

    • At least five years clinical experience
    • Hold one or more post graduate qualifications
    • Current non conditional AHPRA registration
    • Desirable: post-graduate qualifications in a relevant field or in the process of obtaining a higher-level qualification
    • High level of professional integrity and respect for privacy of health information. Knowledge of consent, privacy principles and information sharing processes.
    • Expert knowledge and experience of clinical governance, root cause analysis, health related standards and implementing a safety and quality culture.
    • Extensive experience in team co-ordination
    • Expert technical writing skills in relevant area of health
    • Experience in working on projects and working with project management tools
    • Ability to quickly learn multiple electronic information systems
    • Able to work autonomously with limited direction. Work flow and priority is determined by healthcare incidents and events.
    • Requires resilience to work with complex medical and political issues that are sensitive in nature.

    • Competencies in and knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved in providing advice in the context of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking with a commitment to quality improvement.
    • Ability to delegate and negotiate with others to deliver quality advice with a willingness to show leadership and embrace change.
    • Recent clinical experience relevant to the position including evidence of participation in own professional development and commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills.
    • Ability to effectively prioritise and organise workload and deliver clinical advice with integrity and accountability.
    • High level stakeholder management skills with the ability to identify and develop strong working relationships, including with government departments other similar agencies.
