    Hammond Park Secondary College (SC) is seeking a vibrant, innovative school leader who is committed to achieving outstanding educational outcomes for our students. The Program Coordinator - Head of Instruction should possess exceptional interpersonal skills to lead a growing team of teachers to develop engaging teaching and learning programs.

    The successful applicant will lead the college's instructional framework within the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Learning area, and should possess exceptional behaviour management, and a deep understanding of curriculum and assessment across Years 7 to 12. Next year the college will have Year 12 students for the first time, so experience in leadership of senior school courses is highly regarded.

    You will lead staff to engage effectively in performance management and classroom observation, with a strong focus on developing consistent practices across the HASS learning area. As a leader, you should value feedback and utilise this to improve student performance and inform teaching. Key aspects of the role will be to lead, support and celebrate exceptional classroom practices, and ensure high quality teaching occurs in a learning area that continues to develop integrated, personalised, authentic and relevant learning experiences for students.

    Located in Hammond Park on Irvine Parade, the college opened in 2020 to Year 7 Students. The college buildings include state of the art classrooms, a library, administration and extensive student services area. The college also features specialist facilities for performing and visual arts, science laboratories, food and textiles, design and technology workshops and a gymnasium. The cafeteria is the hub of the central precinct and provides indoor and outdoor seating, landscaped gardens and open spaces.

    This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

    To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

    • capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings
    • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
    • professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students, (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs)
    • capacity to manage physical and financial resources

    Eligibility and training requirements

    Employees will be required to:

    • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
    • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
    • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
    • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement;
    • complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
    • complete the Department's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
    • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

    The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
