    Rail & Maritime Transport (Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics)

    The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project is being delivered by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to provide a fleet of new intercity trains for operation on the New South Wales (NSW) electrified rail network. The rail-car fleet will comprise of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast lines.

    The NIF high-capacity, double-deck walk-through trains to be delivered by RailConnect NSW will be configured as four, six, eight (2x4) and ten car trains The trains will offer passenger comfort and amenities suitable for longer journeys, such as comfortable seating, advanced communications technology and toilets.

    RailConnect NSW is a consortium comprising Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC), UGL Rail Services Pty Ltd (UGL) and Mitsubishi Electric Australia Pty Ltd (MEA).

    Role Overview

    • To effectively and safely manage the dynamic testing and commissioning activities on the network, including the safety of all onboard personnel.
    • To conduct dynamic type testing and commissioning activities and accurately report on technical issues to support the successful introduction of the trains.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure all dynamic test and commissioning activities are conducted safely
    • Manage the safety of all personnel onboard the test train during dynamic testing activities
    • Effective management of dynamic testing and commissioning activities on the network
    • Where possible, address any safety issues as they arise, and notify senior management
    • Limit the number of staff allowed in the crew cab
    • Ensure the required maintenance, inspections and documentation have been completed prior to handover to the train crew
    • Conduct train captain pre-release check
    • Accurately report on testing progress and technical issues via the Train Captain Report
    • Ensure the Train Captain Report is distributed in a timely manner, following testing activities

    Key Accountabilities

    • Ensure compliance with all HRC procedures and relevant legislative requirements
    • Ensure compliance with HRC Fitness for Work Policy, including undertaking your own Drug & Alcohol responsibility of care and submitting to random testing as required
    • Ensure compliance with all emergency plans and procedures and ensure they are displayed as appropriate within your area
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant Rail Safety legislation
    • Ensure all work is compliant with HRC Quality Management Systems policies and procedures
    • All personnel is responsible for ensuring the quality of their work meets specified standards and requirements
    • Raise any non-conformances, with regard to product or process, with the immediate manager or supervisor

    Selection Criteria

    • An appropriate qualification in an Engineering discipline
    • A minimum of 2 years of Rolling Stock experience
    • Understanding and working knowledge of safety management practices
    • Strong systems, operational, and reporting skills
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands
    • Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, email
