    Description

    We are seeking a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our team in Queanbeyan. As a Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing hire equipment, ensuring maximum reliability and functionality. The ideal candidate will have a background in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues in machinery and trucks. Good eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and excellent problem-solving abilities are essential. Strong communication skills are also crucial for providing advice to customers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Inspect equipment, mechanical, and electrical components to accurately diagnose issues.
    • Inspect vehicle computers and electronic systems to repair, maintain, and upgrade.
    • Conduct routine maintenance work, such as replacing fluids and lubricating parts, to enhance vehicle functionality and longevity.
    • Schedule future maintenance sessions and provide advice to operators on proper machine use.
    • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts, addressing issues like leaks.
    • Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for repair or maintenance jobs.
    • Keep detailed logs on work performed and identified issues.
    • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.

    Requirements

    Requirements and Skills:

    • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic / fitter.
    • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of machines.
    • Experience working on trucks, semi trailers, earth moving machinery & attachments.
    • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
    • Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lift).
    • Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
    • Excellent physical condition.
    • High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
    • Heavy vehicle license (HR, HC preferred)
    • Non-smoker/vaper (we have a 100% smoke free workplace)
    • All types of welding, oxy ^ acetylene, TIG & MIG preferred.
