    Permanent Part-Time

    • Permanent Part-Time (24 hours per week).
    • Salary Classification: Administration Officer Level 3 Year 1-2
    • Remuneration:$33.30-$34.33 per hour, plus superannuation.

    The Role:

    The Administration Officer provides operational support to the Department of Palliative Care and collaborates with staff, visitors, and patients.

    The successful applicant will have strong administration and organisational skills. You will receive ongoing training and support while participating in activities across inpatient and community programs.

    The Department:

    The Department of Palliative Care offers a comprehensive specialist service, providing integrated multidisciplinary palliative care across inpatient and community health care settings in the local Newcastle area, as well as support to the district's wider network of palliative care teams. The vision of palliative care is to provide clinical care, education and research to better enable patients with life limiting illnesses to receive optimal care in their preferred setting.

    Our department operates a 17-bed inpatient hospice, a 24-hour multidisciplinary community palliative care service, provides clinical support to the wider Hunter New England Local Health District, outreach rounding to 40 local residential aged care facilities, outpatient ambulatory specialist palliative care clinic, Motor Neurone Disease supportive care clinic, district-wide telehealth clinic, an integrated accelerated transfer to die at home program and bereavement services.

    Your Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the management of clinical data, audit and benchmarking processes.
    • Maintain high quality clinical records and ensure accurate patient information.
    • Referral processing, intake, inpatient administrative activities and support to the outreach team.
    • Provide administrative support to clinicians including generation of letters, communications and management of enquiries.

    What you bring:

    • Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Willing and able to a 7-day roster with flexibility to adapt with reasonable notice to work requirements when required.
    • Experience in the delivery of administrative support to a clinical service and competency with MS Office, particularly the use of excel spreadsheets.
    • Demonstrated ability to initiate, prioritise, negotiate, organise and complete a highly complex and busy workload and to meet deadlines with limited direction.
    • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people whilst maintaining confidentiality, sound judgement and exercising discretion.
    • Demonstrated capability to undertake education and training in information technology applications including electronic medical record systems, health systems (eg iPms, ARIA, CAP).
