    Reporting to the Snr Director, Public Affairs for Australia and New Zealand, this role is responsible for managing public and community affairs in ANZ, across all our HIV and Liver Diseases therapeutic areas, and acting as the lead PA contact point for patient associations / patient advocacy groups. This role is also represents Public Affairs internally as part of the cross functional team.

    The Senior Manager will drive the conception and delivery of strategic unbranded communication programmes, community engagement, corporate giving, plus corporate and employee communication intended to protect and enhance Gilead's corporate reputation while helping us to become the biotech employer and partner of choice.

    They will also be required to provide leadership and support for the implementation of in-market PR activities including developing/strengthening relationships with a variety of external organizations and professionals, media, and other influential organizations in those TAs. This role will assist with preparing communications materials, including strategic programs, key messages, Q&A documents, press releases, presentations and respond to media requests and coordination of interviews with Gilead spokespeople and medical expert spokespeople as appropriate.

    This role works closely with the ANZ PA team and will work in collaboration with the ACE (Australia, Canada and Europe) cross-functional teams (including Government Affairs, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Market Access). In addition, the role works closely with Public Affairs colleagues in ACE and globally, to communicate the value that our medicines deliver throughout their lifecycle.

    This role is based in Melbourne and will require occasional travel interstate and overseas.

  • Responsible for the development and execution of Gilead's local communications and patient advocacy strategy across the HIV and Liver TAs, in alignment with global direction and local leadership, in support of business objectives. Components include: reputation management, issues and crisis management, therapeutic area communications, corporate communications and employee engagement;
  • Serve as primary Gilead contact for local patient advocacy groups in HIV and Liver;
  • Maintain on-going two-way dialogue with patient advocacy groups to understand priorities and opportunities for collaboration and support, and share information on Gilead and our position on key issues;
  • Drive in alignment with Snr Director and the brand teams patient related external communication projects and support internal communication about disease areas and Gilead patient advocacy programs;
  • Represent the voice of the patient community in internal planning;
  • Together with Medical Affairs, engage patient advocacy groups in advisory boards to gather patient insights to inform our decision-making;
  • Collaborate with the ACE Public Affairs leads to ensure alignment of PA activities to the ACE strategy and to share best practices;
  • Coordinate with cross-functional colleagues to ensure alignment and collaboration on business priorities and messaging across different stakeholders;
  • Prepare communication materials, including strategic programs, key messages, Q&A documents, press releases and presentations;
  • Responsible for Gilead's corporate giving initiatives in ANZ
  • Manage budgets to target;
  • Understand the regulatory framework in ANZ and compliantly manage internal approvals and interactions with the review team
  • Proven experience in communications and patient advocacy group relations;
  • Proven experience in project management and event planning and execution;
  • Strong track record of experience implementing projects with defined outcomes in a public affairs, advocacy or policy role;
  • Strategic thinker with ability to formulate, develop and execute on agreed strategies;
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system, local political/healthcare environment and key policies relevant for pharmaceutical market access for highly innovative medicines;
  • Sound business judgment and analytical skills;
  • Successful working within cross-functional teams;
  • Very strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills;
  • Ability to interact with senior management and high-profile experts appropriately, with confidence;
  • Typically requires a BA degree in communications, arts, business or science-oriented field (or International Equivalent) proven relevant experience, which includes ten years healthcare public relations experience
