    Breathing Apparatus and Hazardous Materials (BA HazMat) is responsible for the development, implementation, planning and management of BA HazMat equipment and operations within QFES and provides advice, support and emergency response services. The day-to-day function is to provide support to regional operations, which include but are not limited to maintain specialised equipment to manufacturer recommendations; provide technical expertise at incidents; provide training for HazMat related courses; and ensure capability is maintained by responding to service requirements.

    Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating the BA cylinder replacement and decommissioning program. You will also assist the BA Maintenance Assistant, as required in workshop maintenance activities, ensuring a clean and safe working environment to meet operations and business requirements.

    Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

    Key requirements

    Mandatory requirements
    • C Class driver's license (non-restricted).

    Highly desirable requirements
    • Knowledge and experience, or qualifications working with self-contained breathing apparatus and/or compressed air breathing cylinders and compressors.
    • Knowledge and/or experience in SAP ECC or using an asset management system.
    • A forklift license or the ability to obtain the licence within a mutually agreed timeframe.
    • Ability to perform general repairs and maintenance duties, lifting, climbing ladders and operating various tools and equipment to perform required tasks.

    Your key accountabilities

    Responsibilities

    Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
    • Oversee the end-to-end BA cylinder replacement program ensuring safe work activities complies with Workplace Health and Safety requirements, and working with high pressure air systems are adhered to.
    • Manage procurement and logistics processes through raising purchase orders and goods receipting, including onboarding cylinders, distribution, and disposal of old cylinders to ensure program activities are achieved.
    • Monitor, review, improve and implement administrative and logistics systems and procedures to manage the BA cylinder replacement and/or provide advice to support effective decision-making processes.
    • Maintain maintenance and repair records, ensuring data is entered correctly and accurately into the Asset Management System, including regular reporting of status and/or issues.
    • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and training material relevant to the BA cylinder replacement activities to ensure safe handling, decommissioning and maintenance scheduling is managed to support business objectives.
    • Prepare and review reports, briefs, submissions, and other correspondence relating to BA cylinder replacement program, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the application of effective communication and positive outcomes in service delivery is achieved.
    • Contribute to continual improvements in service delivery, including identification of possible efficiencies and collaborating on the development of innovative solutions to support business objectives.
