    We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support the Geosciences Team in the design, planning and execution of Life of Mine Geotechnical Study programs for Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia.

    The role is an exciting opportunity to challenge your geotechnical and project management skills in the Life of Mine design of Oyu Tolgoi, one of the deepest Block Caving mines in the world. The incumbent will be a significant contributor in shaping the future of the Oyu Tolgoi Project during Order of Magnitude Studies through to Feasibility Studies.

    Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical Design and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Geotechnical Design team, you will be:

    • Assisting in the designing, supervision and reviewing ore body knowledge campaigns for input into the rock mass model.
    • Processing, analysis and modeling geotechnical rock mass data to understand the rock mass and its response to mining.
    • Analysis and interpreting of geotechnical monitoring data for the provision of accurate and timely information for all rock mass back analysis for caveability and stability studies.
    • Conducting rock mass assessments / stability assessments and ground support recommendations for incorporation into mine design and planning.
    • Study phase ground support
    • Working closely with other technical and engineering disciplines to develop and implement best practise guidelines in geotechnical engineering, mine design and for purposes of the Life of Mine studies.
    • Conducting geotechnical analysis inclusive of smaller scale numerical
    • Taking part in internal and external review and assurance
    • Supporting Oyu Tolgoi site by providing input into Ground Control Management Plan, Strategic Mine Planning and operating procedures for all geotechnical activities and quality assurance / quality control practices.

    What you'll bring

    • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
    • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or
    • At least 5-7 years geotechnical experience in deep and high stress underground mining operations and/or Projects, and/or Life of Mine Experience in Block Caving will be advantageous.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing and running ore body knowledge
    • Demonstrated experience in numerical modelling, interpretation of results and communication of risks and opportunities.
    • Experience with underground mine development processes, specifically cave development and construction.
    • Demonstrated communication skills, including an ability to build relationships with both internal stakeholders and external consultants.
    • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail and an ability to problem
    • Exceptional communication skills giving clear recommendations and communications aimed at the right level.
