The Online Safety, Media and Platforms Division provides advice to the Minister for Communications on a broad range of issues and leads the development of policy and regulatory responses which:
We are looking for talented and enthusiastic policy professionals to fill roles in the Media Industry & Sustainability Branch and the Platforms & News Branch.
The Media Industry & Sustainability Branch provides policy advice and delivers programs to support a diverse and sustainable media and broadcasting industry. It is responsible for the national broadcasters (ABC and SBS), delivering programs to support public interest journalism, community broadcasting and the provision of Australian content to Pacific broadcasters. It also provides policy advice on broadcasting and online gambling regulations, working closely with the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
The Platforms & News Branch identifies emerging market policy issues relating to digital platforms, and assesses how the business models of digital platforms impact consumers and businesses. The Branch advises the Government on the delivery of quality public interest journalism to Australian communities and the sustainability of the news publishing sector. It also advises the Government on measures to combat mis- and disinformation, electoral integrity, and foreign interference in the communications, media and online services sectors.

There is also a risk of exposure to harmful online content. The department provides support and assistance to staff that work on or with such material. Staff in the Media Industry & Sustainability Branch and the Platforms & News Branch are not expected to have direct contact with this material.
