- Proven experience as an open pit geotechnical engineer, preferably within the hard rock/gold mining industry.
- Familiarity with slope stability radars and their applications.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Pit Development Guidance: Provide expert guidance on pit development in a demanding hard rock setting, managing 36m high benches blasted/excavated in 12m flitches (61 deg IRA).
- Safety Inspections: Conduct daily inspections to identify and address safety-related geotechnical hazards within open pits and waste dumps.
- Reporting: Generate daily and weekly reports, including monitoring updates, hazard assessments, and recommendations.
- Production Meetings: Participate in daily production meetings, offering insights and recommendations on geotechnical aspects of blasting operations.
- Fieldwork Support: Contribute to the production of fieldwork packages for rope access technicians, including scaling, drilling, and installation of ground support such as cable bolts and wall mesh.
- Monitoring and Response: Attend to pit slope radar monitoring requirements, respond to alarm events, and assess ongoing monitoring tools like prisms, VWPs, and extensometers.
- Safety Compliance: Drive on-site within pit areas, adhering strictly to company SOPs and safety protocols.
