    Description

    The Laboratory Services Officer works collaboratively with the Laboratory Manger, Laboratory Supplies Officer and other Laboratory Management Team (LMT) members, to provide a range of general laboratory support services to scientists at AgriBio, enabling research teams to focus on scientific outcomes. The LMT works together with other support teams within a highly collaborative framework that also encompasses the business management and administration networks from both Agriculture Victoria Research and La Trobe University, the Compliance Management Team, Glasshouse Management Team, AgriBio Facility Management, and various operating committees.

    The Laboratory Services Officer is responsible for ensuring compliant usage, storage, transport and disposal of chemicals and the efficient and effective management of access and equipment at AgriBio in accordance to established procedures and policies. This includes the development and management of a team of lab assistants, to work collaboratively within the Services portfolio and across LMT to deliver timely and quality service provision.

    Further to this the Laboratory Services Officer and team will support the Lab Manager in ensuring that all key LMT deliverables are met, by covering for colleagues in other activities and processes within LMT such as timely availability of laboratory supplies, receipting of deliveries, stocking of satellite stores, assisting with the removal of waste bins, dirty glassware, used lab coats, and chemical waste. The Laboratory Services Officer is expected to work collaboratively with Supplies Officer and Lab Manager to establish LMT-wide procedures and encourage team members to adhere to these. The LSO is expected to undertake specialist training such as operatingthe Walkie Stacker safely and other jobs, related to service provision to laboratories as assigned by the Lab Manager.

    Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

    • A relevant tertiary qualification with a background in Chemistry is required and experience in the provision of science support and managing chemicals is preferred.
    • Technological and Digital literacy: Experience in Microsoft suite of applications is required and experience in database development and management, ChemAlert and LIMS is desirable.

    This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 years. The work location for this position is Bundoora.
