    The opportunity:

    Based in Spotswood, Melbourne, the Shift Manager will be responsible for managing the operations of the Production Department on a designated rotating shift basis to achieve production targets within established safety, quality, productivity and cost constraints.

    The Role:

    Reporting to the Unit Plant Manager, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure that all statutory and company safety and quality standards are implemented as appropriate and adhered to by all team members. Lead the safety initiative in the department through safety talks, hazard identification/risk assessment, accident investigation, development of safe operating procedures and through personal role modelling of exemplary OH&S standards.
  • Maintain operating schedules and control activities to meet targets at stated safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Monitor variables affecting production yields and initiate corrective action.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the shift including training and development of subordinates and ensuring adherence to housekeeping and hygiene standards.
  • Supervise / manage the performance, development, attendance and behaviours of staff. Ensure all staff are aware and follow employment and legislative responsibilities in relation to safety, discrimination and HR policies.
  • Minimise downtime in all areas of the plant by ensuring early rectification of faults and by highlighting persistent problems to day management for investigation.
  • Control the resources during forming, and inspecting of the containers to ensure that only good ware is packed, thereby meeting customer satisfaction and elimination of customer complaints.
  • Ensure that production and inspection department supervisors and workforce are trained and motivated to identify and rectify production faults.
  • Maintain good industrial relations and discipline by observing the Company Policies and Procedures, including the policing of the no smoking regulations.
  • At the end of each shift he/she will write a brief report covering problems encountered, particularly those which contributed to loss of efficiency.
