    About the role

    We are currently recruiting a Senior Estimation Specialist to join our Network Planning and Development team. This role can work from home within Australia, with the possibility of some travel across the Essential Energy footprint as appropriate for connection and collaboration purposes.

    The Estimation Senior Specialist – Complex Projects is responsible for the production of cost estimates which conform to industry standard accuracy classes, to inform business-critical network investment decisions. Responsible for leading capability development and continuous improvement in project estimation for large-scale electrical infrastructure projects. Delivering best practice electrical infrastructure estimation systems and processes, including design and construction methodology, first principles and rate based estimating methods, and risk identification and contingency quantification.

    The Estimation Senior Specialist– Complex Projects is also responsible for the maintenance of current labour and materials resource rate and productivity database to maximise estimating accuracy and efficiency. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the role provides strategic advice to management and actively influences the continuous improvement of the business's financial performance. This position will also be responsible for managing a direct report, an Estimation Specialist.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Accountable for providing assurance over the timely preparation and accuracy of estimates for large scale commercial and internal capital projects
    • Accountable for ensuring compliance with the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) estimate classifications in accordance with Essential Energy's stage gate requirements
    • Accountable for the accuracy of resource and productivity rates for labour and materials
    • Responsible for communicating all attributes relating to estimated project costs, identification of risks, and quantification of contingencies to diverse stakeholders, including frontline, senior leadership, executives, board members, and external proponents, with a focus on professionalism and commercial acumen
    • Ensure estimation inputs comply with the WHS Act and the organisation's OH&S obligations incorporating provisions for the safe design, construction, and commissioning of works

    About You

    In order to be successful in this position, you will possess:

    • Demonstrated experience in cost estimation and/or bid preparation for complex commercial or industrial projects preferably with significant recent experience in the electrical zone substation, sub-transmission and distribution sectors.
    • Demonstrated professional experience in preparing and implementing business plans and leading change, to enable technical and commercial benefits.
    • Professional application of the required qualification in the Energy/Electrical and/or Utilities Industry preferably in an organisation delivering design and construction projects

    Required Qualifications/Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.
    • Professional quantitative, written, and verbal skills to prepare clear and concise documentation and communicate the outcomes with relevant areas of the business including senior management.
    • Superior problem solving and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to undertake quantitative analysis and consider the holistic impacts and effects of proposed solutions.
    • High level skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
    • Competency using industry standard database estimation software or the demonstrated ability to acquire similar software skills.
    • Strong financial and commercial acumen.
